My name is Bailey. I am 28 and from California. I have a 7 year old daughter and a wonderful husband. I have always had weight problems despite knowing what I am doing wrong and what I should be doing to rectify the wrong. I work a full time desk job and have a hard time squeezing in exercise. The only feasible time is before work (and before the hubby leaves for work), which means being at the gym no later than 4:30am. Rough. Although my eating habits during the week are decent, my husband is quite the bad influence on me. We eat out frequently and drink a lot of beer. Sometimes his desires for fun cause him to disregard both of our health and my desire to get back to a healthy weight. More than anything, I do not want my daughter to endure the troubles that both my mother and I have dealt with all of our lives, so I want to instill the proper values for eating and exercise early on. My ideal weight is between 140 and 145, which is the high side for my 5'5" frame, but any smaller and I look emaciated. My start weight was 187.4 lbs and I have recently gotten as low as 162, just in time for our August 2013 wedding. Ultimately, I want to get into better habits so I don't have to worry about my weight for the rest of my life.

I am restarting this journey at approximately 180lbs in February 2014. I am hoping to be back down to my wedding weight of 160 by my 29th birthday, May 8th.

being the fat kid
I didn't start bulking up until later in my elementary years, 5th grade or so. It was because the normal, healthy, family eating had diminished due to illness, sugery, depression, etc. in my family. I was then usually the "bigger of the smaller girls" weighing in at about 140 in 8th grade. Although I wasn't the biggest, I wasn't the cute, skinny girl that all the boys chased after anymore. It hit me hard and has impacted my life greatly, in many ways. My daughter, who will be 6 at the end of the month has unfortunately learned her eating and snacking habits from my mother. My mother, who's years of depression, various health issues (mostly NON weight related), and general lack of health education, is in the high 200's, 270 maybe. Although she doesn't eat a lot, she has a horrible sweet tooth and due to the health and eating issues, basically has no metabolism. She has taught my daughter that several sweet or non nutritious snacks a day is the norm and perfectly acceptable. This of course leads to arguements between the little one and I about her eating. Although she is becomming more active, now being in school, we don't have friends or neighbors that she plays with on a regular basis and I greatly fear that she will end up with the same struggles that I have. I look at her little body and see little dimples on her skin and think to myself "is this just a growth spurt or is she actually gaining weight?" It saddens me to think that she may endure the same weight related issues I have, for the majority of my life.

All I can do is hope that she is learning from me and not the other influences around her....

Shirataki Noodles
oh that sounds awful! I am not a fan of seaweed though. I will only eat it in sushi! I have seen the shirataki noodles in conventional grocery stores too. In the produce section by the wonton wrappers and such. Let us know how the kelp noodles go.

Shirataki Noodles
times vary with your oven and the size of the squash. Just cook it longer. I cook mine face down in about an inch of water to steam it.

Shirataki Noodles
I also heard about the tofu shiritake noodles (and other shapes/sizes) from Hungrygirl, happened to come up on a sample of them from work (I work for a natural foods distributor) and I found them to be GROSS. I don't usually have a problem with textures like that but could not get them to taste good no matter what. I am definitely on board with the 'sgetti squash. I can do butter an parm and eat it just like that. I am interested in trying the cabbage or zuchini instead as well. Yummo!

Should I be concerned? Need Suggestions
Measurements can be a much better monitoring tool for weight loss/muscle gain. Even though you don't have what the measurements would have been when you started, you can start measuring now for future.
