Djburney's Journal, 16 December 2012

I felt despair yesterday morning because I had expectations from the scale. I try not to do that, it is what it is, and I don't want it to determine my mood each day. I just had hope that the fast would break the plateau and it didn't.

The despair didn't last long but my words in print did, and it seemed to really concern my FS buddies. I appreciate that very much. I'm ok, I am just trying to get to the root of my weight loss stall, and get going toward my goal again.

I'm feeling better today, not happy with the gain, but doing ok. The ketostix are still showing negative, so that tells me that something inside is going on since my carbs are so low. I didn't record food yesterday, just didn't feel like it, but it was pretty much the same as previous days.

I'm actually looking forward to Monday to get back to work. I have an amazing opportunity to help kids in juvenile detention centers graduate from high school with my program, I can't wait to get going on it.

I wonder if your thyroid medication is to low. My doctor has me tested regularily and my dosage hasn't changed at all with the 80 some odd pound I've lost. I'm glad you don't dwell on these bad times and hope you figure it out soon.

I have my thyroid tested every two months by an endocrinologist who specializes in thyroid, so I think I'm good with that. My issue was absorption, and I think there is something I'm doing that is causing the meds to absorb better, maybe the empty stomach?

Yes - I take my thyroid meds on an empty stomach every morning and then wait 30-60 minutes before eating.

I've always taken them in the morning, but I think because I ate so much less, my stomach was even emptier.

Since I wake up in the middle of the night to pee at around 2:30 a.m. I have my thyroid pill in a ziplock and I take it then. The instructions say not to keep in bathroom so I only take one up at a time. I hate that you are struggling. I'm moving slower now too but so happy to be where I am. You will get there.

So glad your mood is better. I totally agree that something is going on, not only are your carbs low but so are your calories.

There is a lot of Thyroid pill taking in this thread. I had no idea it was this common. Glad to hear you are staying positive. So important but sometimes oh so difficult.

I really like the middle of the night pill taking idea. i think i might just have to have a go at that myself. Nobody told me i shouldn't eat straight away, found it out through some internet research. And also I just found out about the soy/thyroid issue. I can't understand why my doctor didn't tell me because i drink (or did up until yesterday) soya milk instead of milk. I feel so daft now, thinking i was doing good. Really got to get to grips with this! Squig.x

Can someone tell me what does the time you take a pill have to do with weight? I don't take thyroid "yet" (both mom and grandmom did) just trying to understand it.

The time doesn't really have anything to do with it, it is having an empty stomach that matters so you can absorb all of the medication through your stomach instead of it moving along further in your digestive tract. Thyroid affects many other hormones, which can affect how much you store fat.

wow. I didnt' realize so many of you were on thyroid meds. when I went without a menstrual cycle for a year, I had tests run on all those hormones. I believe mine came out on the low end of normal, so I didn't get an Rx for that.
