mskestrela's Journal, 10 October 2017

Geez, I knew I had been away for a bit, but when I logged on today, it says 18 days! It's been a busy time.
I've been maintaining pretty well, adding in a few starchier veggies. I did have a Jersey Mike's sub last week, and *sigh* Kes still cannot eat wheat. 3 days of swollen ankles and abdominal issues are not worth it.
It's been hot and muggy this last week, which saps all ambition out of me. I'm so longing for that first crisp, cool morning of Fall.
Once the weather does cool down, I've decided I need to dig up the shrubs in front of the house. They were attacked by some sort of lichen, and are pretty well dead.
I'm off to get caught up on my friends' journals.
Have a great week, buddies!

Those last few pounds are really hard to lose aren't they? No loss no gain is still kind of a victory. I have been buying some bread from the Great Low Carb Bread Company. It is kind of pricey but I am the only one who eats it so it lasts a long time. I buy several loaves and put them in my freezer. It is one carb per slice.

@diehard, I've bought the ThinSlim bread, and really didn't like it. It's semi-ok toasted. I'm guessing the GLCBC has mostly the same ingredients, and will have similar drawbacks. I have one hope left, based on my research, and that's to get some heirloom Mediterranean wheat flour. From what I've read, the most common wheat in the US has a compound not found in European wheat, glutanin. I've also heard of many people who are gluten intolerant in the US, going to Europe and having no problem eating wheat products there.

well at least you had a decent submarine I hope! I had a godawful one on the weekend, the meat was grey! yuck... totally reheated crap... and it was tasteless... next time, I'm not going to scarf it down, if I don't have the courage to return it and demand an exchange for fresh food or my money back I'm just going to toss it in the trash and get something else at the food court (FWIW, I was heading for some bright fresh sushi but the place closed down and this was on the menu at the kiosk that replaced the sushi stand... total disappointment but lesson learned!)

Nothing like an out of plan food to make you realize how much you dislike the after effects of such food. Have a great week from here on out!

Awwww...thanks guys! I missed you all, too. @MeekKitty, It was a good sub, and Jersey Mike's bread is the main reason I *used to* go there. But a sub could never 'sub' for sushi in my world! I'm sorry you were disappointed that way, and yes! Demand quality food!! @ehead, you are so right...but bad memories fade quickly, and the 'rewards center' of the brain still remembers the yummy sammich. *sigh*

Kes -- I had one of my baked goods cravings and ate a delicious scone. I was sick for 2 days. The good part is, I don't usually do it again for a while! Good luck with a restart this week.
