mickfan1's Journal, 24 July 2017

I'm not sure how this happened but I'll take it. I had an epiphany this weekend. As I sat eating ice cream for the second time I realized that I am my own worst enemy. I chose to eat it, no one made me. I need to get a handle on my emotions as I tend to turn to food no matter what kind of mood I'm in. Happy? Eat. Sad? Eat. Mad? Eat. Bored? Eat a lot because there's nothing else to do.

I need to make these changes. No one can do it for me. I need to find other ways to feel things but I just don't know how. This loss will hopefully motivate me for a while and things will start going in the right direction.

Stay strong everyone!

At least you recognized it, and that's part of the learning process. I know I've recommended it before on my journal, but in case you didn't see it, here's a few books to check out: "The Slight Edge" by Jeff Olson and "The Compound Effect" by Darren Hardy (publisher of "Success" magazine). Both are similar books on the same topic, but equally good/easy reads.

You might find the book recommendations will help clear your thinking processes. While they are great ways of looking at weight loss, the topics are relevant and applicable to all aspects of our lives.

JoyAlways hit the nail on the head. You can't work on a problem until you identify it and own it, along with the behavior. You are with the right people. We share your pain as we have all struggled with varying amounts of weight for varying amounts of time. For so many it's exactly what you said? Sad-eat. Mad-eat. Glad-eat. For some our you might think the wiring in our brain has been malfunctioning for so long that we no longer see eating as a means to an end? I.E. eating really is for nutrition to give us energy and keep us healthy. Not for soothing our emotions. It's very hard Joy, but you're part of a family now. I feel so welcome here and love interaction through our posts. Best regards to you, Paula
