So an update on my current status. I have been semi-off my diet. Been a little depressed. I am not succeeding. I am cheating too much (i have to admit this for myself) The crazy part is that when I am cheating, i KNOW I am ruining myself.

Why do people do this? Why do we eat that pizza and in our heads say "I know this is not the right thing to eat but I don't care" I guess because this week I didn't care. I didn't think I could change myself...

But I don't want to spiral into a worse situation. So I have to put my foot down and figure my crap out.
I tried doing the salad thing for lunches..it leaves me only hungry after an hour and with bad light hardheadedness. I need more in my salad..just just 8 shrimp and 1/2 avocado..

So what I plan on trying:
-Start working towards LCHF diet. But doing it little by little. The last time I went cold turkey 50g carb a day I felt sick for a week and didnt workout.
-I will eat a potato only on weight lifting days which is 3x a week.
-Replace 1 serving of fruit I usually have with veggies

I want to see if I can slowly lower carbs week by week and see how this works. A few times I tried cold turkey to cut down to 50g carbs I got nausea that I wanted to just eat a whole platter of fruit or even worse... bread. I hate feeling nausea. So I am going to go slowly lowering my carbs and upping my fat intake.

It's a head game. We tend to go in cycles. Did you see my diet tip yesterday? It was, "Quit screwing around!"

I swear to god there are chemical and enzymatic forces bigger than us, yet somehow INSIDE of us. They are shaking their fists at us and yelling, "Eff you! We have been eating G-D*m pizza for years and we were fine and happy!" Then they pull some switch in our nervous system and we are done. Just ENJOY your side trips. You have a good plan going forward. I hope you don't p^ss off the little marauders too much.

I swear eating healthy fats and clean proteins helped me. Eat a whole avocado, grassfed butter, coconut oil, Bulletproof coffee - what do you have to lose by trying it? and yes, lower the carbs slowly if you need to adjust. I cheat at times. too. But we must bounce back.

Thanks lady & HCB -After reading wheat belly- I honestly think its peoples addicting to wheat and the receptors they set off that make us crave the pizza and pasta. We need to fight the crave because sometimes its our MIND craving and not our stomachs. I plan to try and have more healthy fats and clean proteins. I think the last time I tried LCHF was I wasn't eating enough fat as I was lowering carbs which left me a mess.

I think the key to making the transition to low carb is to eat enough fat and protein that you don't allow yourself to get hungry. I wouldn't worry about lowering your calories until you get adapted. Once you're adapted to low carb your appetite with decrease and reducing calories will be much easier.

@rusty thanks for the advice! I'll give it a try.

I heard there is something called 'LC flu'. I never got it when I lowered my carbs, but it sounds like that's what you get. "http://www.dietdoctor(dot)com/low-carb/side-effects"....

With high carb/Keto, high fat is the absolute ruler of how much hunger rules your life. Keto flu is set off much more by lack of sugar so if you had a lot of sugar in your diet as well as bread/pasta carbs, you will feel it more than if you start with clean (veggie/fruit) carbs. A couple of friends found that Poweraid Zero was really helpful at easing the "flu". Set your carbs, really watch your protein and don't worry about the calories. Give yourself a treat of diet root-beer with heavy cream over ice... with a straw, it tastes just like a melting root-beer float. Good luck!

this is so me.. I eat carbage and dont give two f'a.. then feel horrible about it afterwards.. I been stuck in a roller coaster and feeling the exact same way as you.. I just keep trying again over and over.. and dont stop working out.. Advice : if the salad leaves you hungry, add some more protein and healthy fats, so yes on the avocado and maybe think about adding some chicken .. or my all time fav? a bunless burger with two pattys and cheese. Also, do a sweet potato not a reg potato.. lesser of two evils. Have your fruit in the morning and maybe dont do the salad for lunch but for dinner instead.. And I make crystal light fruit punch icy cold.. kills my cravings.. Good luck and hang in there. PM me if you want bc we are in the same sinking boat.. lets row our way out of it.. "jack!jack! Ill never let go !! " bhahahahahaha

@madkat hmm I normally dont eat bread. (although I treated myself to pizza yesterday) but normally my sugar/carb is from potatoes fruit and veggies. But I will give myself a treat of zevia soda and not worry about calories to ease into things. I just dont want to suffer the dreaded carb flu...it effects how I work at my job

Ohhh, I absolutely LOVE diet root beer with heavy cream over ice. I'd forgotten about it. Thanks. I'm going to the store today to get some root beer!

@redgirl hahahaha!!! You have me LOLing about the sinking boat. My god do I feel that way. Ive been on this rollar coaster for 3 years...how I managed not to die already is beyond me HAHA. My current salad had 8 shrimp, sliced amonds, 1/2 avacado, dried cranberries, carrots with olive oil based dressing. Still leaves me hungry. I think I need more than 8 shrimp. Im going to take your advise and maybe do the salads for dinner once in a while. I think my lunches need to be bigger. Lunch is usually where I get dizzy and cranky/hungry. I think I am not preparing my lunches well enough. I think sometimes I take too much out of my diet all at once and feel deprived and give up. I need to stop being so extreme sometimes. :( We can pull through this. I am going to meal prep this sunday for next week and try eating less fruit.

This is what the diet doctor's site says: Induction Flu: Headache, Lethargy, Nausea, Confusion / Brain Fog, Irritability The most common side effect on low carb is what most people experience during the first week, often during days 2-4. The “induction flu”, so called as it can mimic flu-like symptoms. Headache is very common during this period, as is feeling tired, lethargic and unmotivated. Nausea is also common. It’s also possible to experience confusion or “brain fog” – feeling not at all smart. Finally it’s common to feel irritable – perhaps most clearly experienced by the rest of your family. The good news is that these symptoms usually disappear by themselves within a few days. The even-better news is that these symptoms can often be avoided altogether. The main cause is usually dehydration and/or salt deficiency, caused by a temporarily increased urination. The Cure: Water & Salt Salt & waterAny problems can be minimized and sometimes entirely cured by getting enough water and salt into your system. For example try adding half a teaspoon of regular salt to a large glass of water. Drink it. This may reduce or eliminate side effects in 15-30 minutes. If so, this may be repeated once daily if needed during the first week. A better-tasting option is to use broth or bouillon, e.g. chicken, beef or bone broth. The Bonus: More Fat Make sure to eat enough fat. Going low carb, low fat is a recipe for starvation and feeling hungry and tired. You should never endure hunger as you start low carb. A proper low-carb diet contains enough fat to feel satisfied and energetic. This can speed up the transition and minimize the time spent feeling low when starting low carb. So how do you get enough fat when eating low carb? There are any number of options, but when in doubt add butter to whatever you’re eating.

ohh..... thanks dboza.. I never could figure out how to rid the carb flu which is why I sorta stayed away from low carbing. I will try some water & sea salt as wellk as bullet proof coffee for extra fat
