Toumina's Journal, 06 April 2016

You know that saying, "No battle plan survives contact with the enemy"? That's how I feel the last few days. I have a great plan. I like the food I'm eating. Buy my gosh if there aren't a bunch of enemies out there!

Day 1 was going great until late when I found a tin of those little fancy chocolate cookies. 18 cookies! I couldn't stop no matter how much I wanted to. It was like my body just *had* to have the sugar it had been denied all day. So on day 2 I sent the rest of the cookies with J. to his work. Got them out of the house! Not too bad a day, but I did break down and grab a soda while I was out. Now on Day 3 I'm determined not to cave, but the sugar cravings are still there and are so bad I'm afraid to leave the house for fear I'll stop somewhere and grab some sweet I shouldn't have.

This is harder than quitting smoking was. I'm jittery and restless and cranky and acting just like an addict desperately wanting a fix. I'm drinking my water to flush my system, and I signed up for an art class tonight to take my mind off of food. I think I'm going to try scheduling myself lots of activity for the rest of the week and see if that helps.

The sugar cravings was the hardest part of my diet for the first two weeks. Then it slowly diminished in my third week of properly dieting and no more sugar cravings, at least none so far. I'm praying I don't get the sugar cravings again. That what got me 45 lbs heavier.

I signed up for aquacize when I quit smoking. Figured I couldn't smoke in water! For sugar addiction, I'd like to lock myself in the closet, but not the kitchen closet!!! I wish you luck and easier times ahead!!!

The more days you string together without the carbohydrates, the easier it will become, Good Luck!

I would try replacing the Junk food sugar with fruits. I find instead of giving up on foods, replacing them is a better option. Or go gradually into healthier versions. If you eat of lot of healthy foods, you won't be as hungry for the bad ones. If you're stuffed, you won't want to eat anymore. Best of luck. I know it takes time to weane oneself from bad eating habits.

Ok, to anyone out there who's listening,I would like to try this challenge but can Iget a clarification on the carb counting? I was told to try 45 per day. Gees! Turns out so many things that Ieat have so many carbs. Even carrots and bananas. I find that when i eat, before I know it I have already reached the limit and am still hungry. That is a miserable feeling. Any advice anyone? I can't foresee enough of a food list to feel successful....

I think the art class is a great idea! I've been trying my best to stay busier and it seems to help. As a side effect to that, I'm getting a lot of projects finished that have been hanging fire for a long time. I feel for you about the sugar cravings. Sometimes I think I know how an alcoholic must feel about drinking.

Keeping yourself busy is a good idea; enjoy that art class. Try a line dancing good exercise and fun too.

Sleep is good too -- go to bed an extra 90 mins before you normally would.. Spend the first 30 just pampering yourself, and then get an extra 60 mins of sleep every night.
