Good Morning, FS Warriors! I figured it's about time I checked in here. DW got home yesterday. She's pretty content to lie in bed, until the lure of Facebook becomes too overwhelming. Well, the insurance adjuster totalled the van. I could have had it repaired and hoped for the best, but I figured the impact was in the front, yet it shattered the sliding door window, so something shifted or twisted. I'm not taking any chances. I did something I haven't done before; found a nice SUV on the internet and made an offer. There were lots of pictures and a Carfax report, so I'm keeping fingers crossed.

Pretty cold outside. We got about 5 inches of snow last night. I left work and headed straight over to the tire place and had new tires put on the truck. Made me feel a little froggy though. I drove in the snow hitting about 70 mph in some places. If I go sideways, I'm sure my speed will diminish, but I kept her straight. I love 4WD and good tires! I did run into (not literally) a lot of people that were afraid of entering eternity apparently - going 20 mph on relatively clear roads. I don't mind people slowing down for road conditions, but if you do, then don't ride the guy's bumper in front of you so nobody can pass. I ran into strings of as many as 8 cars going 25 - 30 mph on snow covered roads, within inches of the bumper in front of them. How is that safer than what I do?

I'm expecting a counter offer on the SUV, or someone else may step up and offer full price. I was looking for a vehicle when I found this one, so I guess I can live with that also. As long as I buy her something nicer than what she had, I am safe. Well, that's about the most interesting stuff going on in the life and times of DK right now. I don't really want any more excitement right now. Wishing you all a great day. Toodles!

Hubby just put new tires on my car and I feel pretty fearless myself...I totally agree that people who are going way too slow pose a great risk on those of us not afraid to drive in inclement weather, I passed some people going 40 on clear highway this morning...unbelievable...glad wife is home :)

Nothing better than good tires on a 4x4 in the snow. I always said I wouldn't mind driving in the snow as long the other drivers would get out of my way. They cause more accidents by being on the road with unsafe tires. Happy you both are safe. Hugs!

We have a lot of people around here who have no clue on how to drive even with a few flakes falling, never mind when the snow covers a road. Its just safer for administrators to close the schools and everything but emergency services. Most of my staff would just call in off work when a chance of snow was in the forecast. I would have to work double and triple shifts with no extra pay. Makes for a grumpy person. I love snow but that situation made me dread it.

I hear you, Kattay. I've got people that work for me that pray for snow so they can used it as an excuse for not coming to work. They would brave a tornado on vacation though. I guess everybody knows one or two of whom I am talking about.

OH - so glad your wife is home and doing well! Yes, that winter driving can be a challenge. I do OK with it most days - it is frigid here right now so the exhaust of the car in front of you freezes and makes it slick - they call it "black ice" here in Minnesota

I hear you on the tires, KD. We usually run blizzaks on the wife's vehicle since she's out on the road a lot of the time for her job. They're no stud, but in our experience they are far better than a studded tire in most situations. They stick well. On our little car, we buy good winters tread but with a harder rubber. It sees a lot of bush miles (Honda CRV) and we run the winters all year round. They're great in mud. Living where we do, we never buy anything but 4wd.

LOL Froggy!!! Such a much nicer label than the one I use when some #$%$ idiot passes me at a high speed in bad weather. Love it. You're right about the tailgating on bad road conditions though - totally stupid. I am waiting for one of those digital marquees for rear windows to be invented... be able to select a phrase like 'hey, back off or buy it.. your choice'!

I always wished I could say, "Why don't you ride up front with me where you'd be more comfortable?"
