Anyone else find that when you are trying to lose weight people keep trying to feed you? I'd like to think that it isn't a deliberate attempt to sabotage me. I actually had an ex-boyfriend who used to (randomly) bring me a plate of food and I'd ask, "why"? He'd say, "because you looked hungry". What? I'm 250 lbs and I'm sitting there watching t.v., how do I look "hungry"? I don't even know what hungry looks like, lol. Well, except when my dogs look at me, they do a very good "I'm starving to death, even though I just ate dinner" look, but I don't think I can touch it! Weird. Now my lovely neighbor keeps trying to feed me...I guess I just have that "hungry" look going on, hahaha.
So, that is all to say I had a Caramel Coffee Crunch muffin that was probably about 400 calories which put me a bit over the limit and was full of sugar, fat and all that crap. Don't tell anyone, but I didn't really like it very much. All this healthy eating has killed my craving for sweets, completely. Yay ! Salty and crunchy are easier to do healthily...and I still love me some salty. Am not stepping on the scale tomorrow all the same.
Had my physical, she's going going to test me for thyroid, hormones and all that jazz, so I will be interested in the results. I'm not really hoping for something to be wrong, but on the other hand, it might be nice to know about it if there is. I'm also anxious to see if my cholesterol has dropped with my weight loss and healthier eating.
Hope everyone had a happy day.

The neighbors are always interesting people- I think in a state like Florida I would probable ly be in shock if a neighbor offered food- people are sometimes strange here- you can live next to someone for years and not know who they are- Florida is somewhat of a fly by night state-Lol- keep up the good work and good work on keeping up with doc appointments

I keep looking for creative ways to turn down food. Let me know if you find one. ;o}

I wish I had spoken to you prior to your blood work! I would have had them check you for Insulin Resistance. It's a special test that they have to check especially and specifically for. If everything else comes back normal, maybe see if you can get that done. It was a HUGE eye opener for me and explained why I'm tired all the time and can't lose weight even eating 1400 calories per day at 200 pounds going to the gym 3X/week. Now that I know, I'm finally losing weight, but I would still be bashing my head against the wall if it wasn't for that test!

I often tell people it's an asthma or migraine trigger for me and I'm sorry I just can't eat it. Other times I simply tell them I have to be good.

Thanks mrsmole, I will mention it to the Dr. next time if everything comes up rosy. I have an unusually friendly bunch of neighbors, partially because I live on the ground floor of an apartment building and we all have a walk-out to a big, fenced-in grassy area and partially because we all have pets, it seems that we all end up being friendly and mostly get along. It's kind of funny, since the people on the floor above us, some of them never leave their apartments or speak to anyone...I just got lucky moving into the social floor, lol. I am grateful that I have had such good fortune with neighbors.

Chris, "No, thank you" works very well.

Lol, eddie1261, you would think so, wouldn't you? Some of them are VERY persistent...Or maybe I just have trouble saying, "No, thank you" convincingly? Actually, that may be it, since my Labrador doesn't seem to take me seriously.

Chris Sparks I understand that! It seems like every time I try to lose weight is when people are having parties for holidays or birthdays! They usually have my favorite foods----sweets, fats, and uhhh more sweets!!!! They know what they are doing! LOL!!! From my boyfriend I always get the 'I like you the way you are' line Then I say how I am not pleased with myself or the way I have changed and then I get the 'If that's how you feel about yourself then do something about it'!!! THANKS BAE!!! SMH! What a way to support me on my journey! How about you come join and motivate me!!! You said how do you look hungry? Hungry to me looks tired, drained, and weak even if you just woke up! It is not always a negative, sometimes men just don't realize how we take what they say. Food is like gas for the car, if you don't put it in the car you can't go! That is me, all the time! They say if you know better you do better...what happened to me!!! I am a health and wellness coach and let postpartum depression take over me! Since I started drinking more water, I feel a difference in the amount of sweets I eat. I love Sam's cakes and I ordered them for my babies in August and it was toooo sweet for me! Didn't notice before I started drinking more water. Same for my salt intake! I love Chinese and soy sauce! I pile it on! Not no more! UGH!!! Chris Sparks and... Pwrestlephoto- Here in GA we have that 'Southern Hospitality'! I don't understand it but when my dad decides to grill out, family just show up, and they had no clue he was going to do it. It's like a sense goes off and say let's go over there cause there is going to be food! LOL! Hipaagrammy-I always either tell people I don't know that I am allergic to an ingredient in it cause they can look at me and tell I like to eat! LOL! Another excuse I use is that either I just ate or I have dinner plans...even though the food looks sooooo good! SMH! Mrsmole-I have heard of the insulin resistance before but every time I go to the doctor, usually something else is wrong with me, the reason I went to the doc in the first place, that I always forget to ask about it! Thanks for bringing that up! diabetes is common in my family and I wouldn't be surprised if they say I am diabetic. I did have gestational diabetes with 2 of my 5 pregnancies! Keep you posted! :-) Wholefoodnut- The last time I told someone that I had to be good they lied to my face and told me nothing was wrong with me...REALLY! As a woman, thanks for feeding my ego, but as a person...the truth hurts--hurt me please for health reasons!!! Eddie-That is a good one--beats telling white lies!!! :-/

Welcome Teasha. and thanks for the reply. You will love it here on FatSecret...a great bunch of supportive, wonderful people. And we are all fighting the fight to lose weight, in different ways. I think southwestern Ontario must have some of that 'Southern Hospitality' thing going on, lol.

There are four reasons I can think of because people want to sabotage us. 1. Some people just want to take care of you and they think the best way would be to feed you. 2. Your ex maybe liked heavier women so he didn't want you to lose weight. 3. He thought if you get hotter he will lose you to a more attractive guy. 4. My sister that is obese just rolls her eyes when I say that I can't have her pie or cake because I'm trying to lose weight. I think it's an ego thing. If I am living healthy and losing weight and they are not that makes them feel bad about themselves. They want everybody else to fail so that they have a validation that eating healthy to lose weight doesn't work because the bad habits are stronger then us and that they should never even start their lifestyle change.

You make some very good points snezica, I can see the ex might have been feeding for all FOUR reasons, yikes. I have a sister who was bitter about seeing that I was cooking healthy foods "even more often than she was", like being healthy was a competition or something? You have given me a lot to think about, thank you so much.

I have neighbors who seem to have this idea that because I am old and live alone (alone meaning without wife or girlfriend - my dog is my only housemate) they need to think about me as the old man down the street that everybody needs to pity. They constantly offer me plates of food after the barbecue or the family picnic. I tell them "I appreciate the offer but that isn't the kind of stuff I eat anymore. I am strictly vegetarian and don't really eat starchy and fatty things like potato salad." And again stressed that I am thankful that they thought about me. They also seem to think I can't cook for myself, and that is SO not the case. If I chose to, I could probably cook at a level where a small diner/lunch counter would love to have me. As far as the ex boyfriend, there are 2 more theories. One is that he may have had a fetish toward larger women and was trying to bulk you up. Another is that he just didn't respect you enough to honor your word that you truly did not want anything. I LOVE that people I know respect my choices. Whenever I have a lunch meeting with a friend they always defer to my dietary lifestyle and let me pick the place where I can get a vegetarian meal. I love them for that.

I think No-Thankyou is the correct answer and if they keep trying after that then its time to be sarcastic/ I have been fortunate that my friends and business associates have been respectable of my diet / And most restaurants have reasonable choices for dieters

Never fails, but you will have to navigate your way through the rough waters. Hope all comes back well with your medical.

Eddie, sorry you are not old. Do not tell yourself you are old as 63 is not old....
05 Sep 14 by member: wholefoodnut
eddie1261, you aren't old. What they think is their problem, lol. Silly the ideas people get about you when you live with alone with dogs or cats. Nice that they worry about you, though. Terrific that the people in your life respect your choices. I find most of my friends and family are not supportive. I've had to cut some of them out for not being supportive.

Eddie, just so you know, OLD cannot be the age you are right now. Old is always twenty years older than you are. ;)

Well, 20 from where I am now is called dead, so..... :-) The biggest thing that the neighbors had to get used to is that I am a loner by nature. I can go WEEKS without seeing another human being and not mind it a bit. I always said if it wasn't for the sodomy, prison wouldn't be all that bad. Of course I'd have to be able to have a dog, though..... And internet. And cable TV. And a kitchen.

I live in a "retirement" town, so 20 is a newborn here eddie, lol.
