jmb3450's Journal, 07 August 2014

I started using a new brand of protein powder that I like a lot, improved taste and mixability from what I was using. It's Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard 100% Whey, Double Rich Chocolate. Price is pretty good too, I bought it on Amazon with free shipping.

Missed a great deal on a recumbent bike by a couple hours yesterday, somebody beat me to it. After doing some research I've figured I can get a good used one much cheaper than buying new, just might take some patience.

This past week my back has been giving me fits, I guess because of additional lifting and moving computers and equipment as we set up about 200 schools in preparation for the start of school. By the time evening comes the pain and discomfort is pretty high. My fall from the roof onto my driveway last December continues to haunt me, I really hope that by losing the extra weight I'm carrying it'll get better.

Unofficial weight of 228 this morning, a pound down from the day before, that puts me on track for a decent loss this week. Really need to keep out of our test kitchen at work, they're cooking stuff every day now. I gave in yesterday at lunch and had to adjust significantly to keep calories in check for the day but my carbs were too high and protein lower than I wanted it. So trying again today to stay out of there. Hoping everyone has a great day.

You are doing great Jim. Within 5 minutes of my 3.5 mile walk last night, my heal starting acting up. The pain level hit 10 really quickly. I had ample time to turn around and head back home but I pushed through it. Within a few minutes, the pain level reduced to a 3 and I kept on moving to complete my walk in 45 minutes. I too am hoping that as my weight comes down, it will take the pressure off of my feet and they will get better.

I use Optimum Nutrition too, the Caramel Toffee Fudge and Vanilla Ice Cream are A-mazing (I do NOT recommend the chocolate mint)! Sorry about your back, I hope it feels 100% soon!

Way to push through the pain Ches. The same thing happens to me sometimes with my back, it seems like as I continue to walk it works out the kinks and the discomfort isn't as bad.

Thanks Socolova! Once this is used up I might try another flavor, it's a 5lb tub so might be a little while.

There are probably a lot of used recumbent bikes on sale since a lot of people buy them and never look at them again. I didn't use my stationary bike for years, only my friends did. But now I ride it almost everyday. I'm sure your back will be much better after you lose more weight and your feet too, chesgreen.

ON is too expensive in South Africa so i use a cheaper brand but end up with good results also

cheaper over here doesnt always mean inferior

Too bad on the back problems; those falls can haunt you for a long time. Think an inversion table would help you? Good job on the walking.

Great job! Please be careful with all that heavy lifting. Reminder, "bend the knees" A lesson I learned too late. Are you taking Physical Therapy, if not a few of the Youtube Videos can show you exercises for your back. Tricks, when eating try eating the Meat first to ward off the hunger and then you will find the carbs might not be needed. You are going to be fine. We here at Fatsecret are here to cheer you on. Have a great day!

What's the protein per serving?
07 Aug 14 by member: ClassicRocker
for Optimum Nutrition I believe it's 24 grams per scoop....calories on my flavors are either 120 or 130, low fat, low sugar...

Nutrition info. for the Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard 100% Whey Double Rich Chocolate is - Calories: 120 | Calories from fat: 10 | Fat: 1g | Cholesterol 30mg | Sodium 130mg | Carbs: 3g | Sugars: 1g | Protein: 24g. It was $57.99 for a 5lb container that has 74 servings which is less than I was paying for the Top Care powder at the grocery store. The Top Care stuff was OK, actually 1 more gram of protein, but didn't mix as well or taste as good. I've read that protein sources for some powders can be questionable, this stuff I just got is supposed to be a high quality protein obtained from US sources and not overseas/third parties.

no doubt about it that optimum nutrition is definitely the best whey out there but ive settled for nutitech whey, its actually good value for money over here and its produces results (the same as any top rated brand) although if i had the budget for ON i would go for it

Ibiza122 - thanks for the info, I'll look into the other brand also.
