The Derpster's Journal, 21 June 2014

I had my first real struggle with self control today, the cafeteria where I work has this pizza they make that is sinfully good not because it's loaded with toppings and cheese and fresh made sauce but sinful because aside from being huge slices there is a lot of dough used to make the crust; it's probably the only thick crust pizza I've ever loved.

I managed to ignore it at lunch and get something better for my diet, I went by the cafeteria after work thinking for sure the pizza would all be gone and I could get something else to take home... there were still 4 slices left (bear in mind 2 of these slices makes up half of any ordinary medium pizza); the two on top were just calling to me and so I went to get a box from the line chef but he was busy so I quickly left before I had more time to think about it.

So far it's been easy for me to say something "probably wouldn't be that good and you's just regret it" but I know this pizza is real good because I've had it many times before; oh well I survived my first real hurdle so I guess the next one will be easier... I hope.

You did great, and if you think about how briefly you would have enjoyed it but how long you would have regretted it, that will make you even more proud of yourself. Draglist is right that saving it for the really special occasions is the way to go. "Monday" is not a good enough reason!

What MrsMole said is right on the money.......!! The brief pleasure from eating that pizza would have made you kick yourself far longer than you enjoyed it! One bite at a time, and you crossed a major hurdle by "just saying NO" :)

You did good not to get it. I've been able to make several substitutions for my favorite foods. Pizza - I use chicken breast (pound it down flat & thin), quickly brown it, then top it with sauce, cheese & veggies, even a little pepperoni. I find that I get most of the flavors I'm missing with the pizza and none of the bread that causes me problems. I made noodle-less lasagna not long ago that turned out really good too. And my family now prefers sloppy joe stuffed bell peppers over the sandwiches that they used to really love. They aren't eating as low carb as I am but they are enjoying many of the same dinners.

Hey we all go through it and feel the want. You just keep telling yourself why you are doing what you are doing and one day you'll be able to have it and not really worry so much. Keep up your fight. Good luck!
