So, for my weekend opportunity to use my mindful eating & living skills, I start today with many options. DH is leaving this morning to go skiing with his brother overnight & back early tomorrow. A day to do as I please… so, I think I'll start with tabata spin & errands, some long-overdue filing (not much fun yet but I know how good it will feel to get these things done), then mass & a movie, with the Olympics playing in the background along the way. I've been wanting to see "The Butler" which is out now to rent. I was waiting to watch it with DH, but it turns out it was his in-flight movie on this last trip, so tonight it will be my in-home movie.
I'm feeling good as I continue to build my road gluten, lactose & sugar aware, and mindfully eaten. I'm realizing that when I choose to detour it usually starts mindlessly eating a bite here, then 2 bites there, followed by a handful… so, I've set a personal challenge to plate whatever I choose to eat & sit down and enjoy it. It sounds so simple… we'll see if it is?!?
Yesterday I had two specific challenges & I'm thrilled to say, two successful handlings of the opportunities they presented. I had a nice lunch out with friends, but craved something sweet after. I like these girls but a couple can be a bit pretentious at times, so in all honesty, it was nice, but not really that much fun, so I'm sure the disappointment added to the craving. (But, I did have a delicious grilled calamari salad & ate it mindfully.) For me, the most important piece was that I remembered to take that pause before I dove into something when I got home. The thought of the "what then's" directed me instead to a nice hot cup of coffee & the distraction of checking in here & getting busy around the house. Then, last night, DH came home early & unannounced. DS was home too, so we had an impromptu dinner together after which I could have gone for the something covered cashews that DH was having. Instead, I again paused, breathed & choose what I knew my body needed -- fresh fruit instead. I had delicious fresh, ripe mango & a clementine, both of which were plenty sweet followed by a cup of tea brewed just in time to watch the Opening Ceremonies.
So, I'm not sure what opportunities lie ahead of me today, but I know the best way to start this one day… in prayer --
God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference.
Living one day at a time; Enjoying one moment at a time; Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace; Taking, as He did, this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it; Trusting that He will make all things right if I surrender to His Will; That I may be reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with Him Forever in the next. Amen.
And for this one day, and each one meal, moment, bite, thought & emotion, I'll pray, breathe, log, journal & express my way. I'm so grateful for each of Effervescent you, my family & IRL friends (especially the down-to-earth, non-materialistic ones), another day & opportunity to eat & live mindfully, and the health & wealth to live this life I love! xoxox
