Been dieting 2 weeks and have only lost 6 pounds. Getting a bit discouraging when I am trying as hard as I have ever tried to lose weight. Even more discouraging is that fact that I have so much to lose. At this rate it will take me 5 years to lose the 80 pounds I wanted to lose starting the day after Christmas! I have seen what diabetes has done to overweight women in this family, and I sure do NOT want to be next on that list!!

Diet Calendar Entry for 11 January 2014:

Wow, six pounds in two weeks is amazing. I am lucky to lose a half a pound a week. One of the most important aspects to successful weight loss is keeping realistic expectations. There are weeks of losing big, weeks of doing everything right and showing a gain, weeks of overeating and getting a loss. There are also weeks of staying the same. You are doing great. If you lost 3 pounds a week, you would be down 60lbs in 5 months. Most people even out over the first few weeks to a pound or two a week, but you never know with weight loss. Just stick with it and be proud of every loss big or small. They all add up and take you to goal. You will be there before you know it.

Suzi is right. I've done a lot of research on weight loss and it is the norm to lose 1-2lbs a week. Besides, you don't want to lose it too quickly as you'll have a loose skin problem. I keep reminding myself that I didn't gain the weight overnight so I am not going to lose it overnight. So 6 pounds in 2 weeks is AMAZING!!!! Also keep in mind that exercise (which you didn't mention, but just for an FYI) will cause you to gain muscle. So don't be discouraged by the scale. Sometimes we don't lose weight, but we lose inches. Keep up the good work!

Six pounds in two weeks is a lot. There are physiological limitations as to how much fat you can burn in a day. If the total amount of weight you need to lose sounds overwhelming, break it into "segments". With every pound lost you will feel better even if are are still not at your goal weight. You are doing great, just don't give up.

3lbs. a week is pretty decent. Many of us would love to lose that much, but like myself, if I lose 1lb./week, I'm ecstatic. Don't give up. FERN... no truth to quick vs slow weight loss and lose skin. I've been on my diet for over 2 years and my skin is a major issue. When you hit my age, elasticity in the skin is a thing of the past. That's why I tell my son to get his weight off so he doesn't have to deal with the skin issues.

You are doing fantastic! We all lose weight diffrently. You can't just go by "numbers." What type of diet are you doing? Do you walk? Also, do you have any health conditions (hypothyroidism) that could contribute to this? To me, six pounds in two weeks is a lot. Everyone's body and metabolism is different. My worry would be if you changed your diet/exercise routine drastically and there was no change. You have a positive change!

Three pounds a week in phenomenal! We are all different and will lose at different rates so don't compare yourself to others, this is your journey. Just remember YOU are more than just a number on the scale. Keep going strong and you will reach your goal.

I am new to the site and after reading your post I agree with everyone else, I have been on my lchf diet for 2 weeks and have lost about the same. I am super excited for the loss. I have never lost that much in a 2 week period. I do go by the Fat to Skinny diet by Doug Varrier. He has a website called Fat to Skinny, he talks about how much hidden sugar is in our foods. This has really helped me to lose what I have. I'll be praying for you and know that I will be here to encourage you. Together with everyone else here are striving for the same thing. Whether it takes 5 months or 5 years, it's not a race, its a life style change. Remember, you didn't get to where you are over night. God Bless you on this beautiful day.

Thanks everyone for the comments. It helps a ton to know we all can't be held to the same standard because of the differences in our bodies.

1) STOP eating carbs. Lean protein and leafy vegetables only. This means bread, sugar, potatoes, etc. Aim for 1 gram of protein per lb of muscle weight per day. 2) REDUCE calories. You can make an extremely filling meal from broth, bouillon, and shiritaki (konjac) noodles that will fill you to bursting for ~100 calories with zero carbs, etc. 3) DRINK kefir, 2 cups per day, and take probiotics with Lactobacillus gasseri (NOT acidophilus!) 4) EXERCISE in moderation. Too much exercise will cause you to lose muscle, which is not good. 5) DRINK a LOT of water, plain or sparking. Flavored mineral water works great. I have a Soda Stream and order citrus extracts by the quart from Olive Nation. Follow this program devotedly, and you can expect to lose a lot of water weight in the first week, followed by 2-3lbs per week thereafter. But the key is to lose the carbs. There is plenty of info out there about how carbs are needed to build fat and how they can cause/exacerbate diabetes.

That is pretty good. They say you should only lose an avg. of 2 pounds a week and you are losing 3. Just think, in 2 more weeks you will have lost 12. That can make a HUGE difference. Keep small goals to keep yourself motivated and lose the weight at a healthy pace, you will be more able to keep it off. You really just have to think of it as an adventure. You are learning a lot of really interesting stuff about your body and feeling different as a result all the time. Pushing yourself can really feel great. Now I just need to get that motivation back haha

Nosfiratu... To the contrary regarding the exercise. Exercise will build up muscle if done properly.
