Kathy Vanish's Journal, 24 June 2013

Well, I am feeling a little low. My business is slow right now and even though I am swimming, I feel as if I am not doing enough as the scale never seems to move. And then just when it does go down, I get my period and have to wait a week and a half before I can get an accurate weight reading. Frustrating.

I have been swimming in the pool everyday for at least 1 to 3 hours. I try to do some aqua toning and laps when I am not playing with my daughter. I kind of guess when I put in the calories for fatsecret, but I am feeling thinner (if that counts for anything). While, I have a knitting project that is not going to knit itself and I know my daughter is going to want to swim with Nana tonight and play playdough and with her new hot wheel set. And don't forget to catch ladybugs before bed time. I am already tired, I hope I make it through tonight.

So, here's the thing to think about. You're doing water aerobics/swimming/aqua toning...etc, remember muscle weighs more than fat. So, just because the scales aren't moving doesn't mean you're not losing fat..or just because the scales are going in the wrong direction it's a bad thing. This is when the measurements and the way your clothes fit come in. Trust me, I haven't been exercising, so pretty soon, I'm going to have a bunch of flabby skin hanging from my body (gross!) and I really have no justification for not exercising except that I really don't want to do it. So, the good news is: You feel skinny-er, your scales may be plateau-ing but you are still doing good things with your body and building muscle, and I'm sure at the end of the day, you feel great. :-) Keep it up, you're doing great and you can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

just smile and play with your daughter, go catch bugs and move with her that's why kids have to eat so much they are always moving so if your moving with her its all good!

Kathy, you're swimming 1-3hours/day, how come this is not enough? And you're feeling thinner, that's way more important than a number! Don't worry, you're doing fine and the numbers will show it eventually!

Kathy - I completely understand where you are coming from. I am a victim of hormonal weight gain as well! Around my cycle - don't even talk to me about a scale!! However I have found a way to work around it ... slightly. I take Super B Complex every single day along with my multi vitamin - because B vitamins are water soluable - they do not sit in your body. With that said - I have found that especially during that time - B vitamins and water are my best friend, it keeps the bloat down as well as some of those "fake" pounds. The more you drink, the more you will flush! Best of luck to you and do not get discouraged, enjoy your family!! :-)

Thanks everyone! You have made me feel a little better. I guess I am just feeling a little frustrated with the world and I use to eat to make myself feel better and now I don't know what to do.

Go to your pool, have fun and think that is a jealous brazilian wishing she had a pool too - that's a way better way to deal with frustration, don't you think? :)

I completely relate to the monthly cycle issue. I'm going to try B vitamins and water as one person recommended. I also find that too much caffeine can make me hold onto weight even when I'm exercising regularly. I don't know why - something about adrenal fatigue. A huge symptom of adrenal fatigue is exercising regularly without losing weight, getting tired in the afternoons, and having atrocious periods. So, if you are drinking lots of caffeine, you might want to try cutting that down too.

I have stopped drinking pop for the most part and only have a mug of coffee in the morning. On days when I can't drink coffee I get a tremendous headache in the afternoon.

My thoughts are more positive today as I have worked out my computer problems and the slide was installed on the pool today so only fencing which is ordered and topsoil to replace part of the yard. I am almost done writing checks lol!
