Phew, what a busy week!

Monday I started my archaeology job. And I worked 4 of 5 days this week, it was raining Tuesday, so we didn't get to work. Primarily we are digging shovel test units which are small squares (about shovel width) down until either...subsoil (getting to clay), clay, or water. We are digging the STUs at 5 meter intervals to try and establish the boundary of the site. So if we dig one that is positive the site will expand more in that direction and we'll dig another 5m away. If that one is negative then we know the stopping point of that side. Does that make sense? After we have established the boundary then we will dig a couple of 1m x 1m units to get more of an idea what is there. So far we are finding pottery sherds (fragments), and different types of stone flakes. Flakes are what the pieces of stone that have come off of another stone when a tool (i.e. point, scraper, etc.) is being made. Also, we have found some historic ceramic fragments and window and bottle glass. We are working at Ft. Jackson Military Base, so of course we find the occasional bullet and things from there. This past week I was getting to work about 6, but next week will be 6:30 b/c it's getting lighter later and hard for us to work. I get pretty hungry doing this job and I pack my lunch and I pack quite a bit in case I get hungry, but obviously I need to do a better job of keeping track of how many points I'm eating. I gained 1.4 lbs this week, which is frustrating.

I haven't been keeping track of points, so I will start doing that again so hopefully I will lose the weight! It seems like I can't get below this 115 mark.

Another thing I didn't do this week was an "formal" exercise. Of course work is exercise! I'm lifting shovel fulls of damp to wet dirt all day, then sifting that dirt through a screen that I have to shake. But I think I need to make myself a schedule of what type of exercise I'm going to do each day and when. I will try and work that up this weekend.

I'm not only working the archaeology job, but Barnes & Noble a couple times a week. We need the money, but it sure is tiring.

Oh yesterday I treated myself to a massage! Well sort of. Greg had gotten me a gift card to a spa for Christmas and I never used it. So I decided that after starting this job and being so sore that it was about time. I got an hour massage and it was wonderful! The only thing I wished she had done was my feet, but I have poison ivy on my ankles and I didn't want her to transfer it to someone else! And so she said I have knots in my shoulder area and that it would take several sessions to work them out (it's not her just trying to get $, I feel them!) So I made an appt. for Tuesday..and it's for a couples massage b/c Greg's birthday is next Saturday. I think he'll enjoy it.

There's so much I have to do on my "to do" list, and I've just been so lazy and not done it. How do you all get everything done?

Evelyn: I have not forgotten about the Turbo Jam recs. Which ones do you have?

I'm about to leave to go visit family in Charleston. My grandfather is doing well and it's also my cousin's birthday celebration (birthday is tomorrow).

What do you guys think about FS's new thing when you weigh in and it tells you either how much you have to lose or if you lost weight how long it will take you to get to that goal? Last weigh in I'd only lost .4 and it informed me that at that rate it would take 6 months for me to get to goal! I don't want it to tell me that!

Ok, guess this is long enough. I have to get going, but I will read everyone's journals tonight or tomorrow so I can catch up!

I haven't had the pleasure (or displeasure!) of weighing in under the new system yet. Yikes. The thought of it rather scares me! As for the Turbo Jam dvds, I have the Punch, Kick and Jam; Cardio Party with Ab Jam; Learn & Burn with 20 Minute Workout and Turbo Sculpt. I'm not really sure how many different Turbo Jam dvds are even out there. Your job continues to sound very interesting. Do you always work on sites that unearth civilization artifacts or have you found any fossils? Talk of your massages is making me jealous. They feel soooo good. I've only had a handful of them in my life but I enjoyed them all thoroughly!

So glad you found some time to relax in your busy schedule. I always like the idea of getting a massage, but I hate having a back rub, so I imagine a massage would be doubly horrible! I actually like the new system, I find it motivating to know how much time I have left if I keep it up, although this week I will post a gain (I'm pretty sure) so I may not feel so cheery about it. So glad you're enjoying your job--it sounds like hard work, but also fascinating when you find something (though I imagine the digging gets tedious!).

Love hearing about your work. I would DEFINITELY consider that a workout!! I promised myself a massage once I hit below 200lbs and stayed there. I keep putting it off - I kind of can't believe I'm there and staying there and still losing! Wishing you the POWER of ZEUS while you're shoveling!

Cool new pic. When you're done digging, you guys can come to the Sacramento area and do some arch digs, relating to historical artifacts of our "undergrond city" lol.

No matter how much time we have we manage to fill it with one thing or the other. I really don't know how people get anything done at all when holding down multiple jobs and with kids to boot. It never ceases to amaze me. Don't worry about gaining a bit, it will come right back down. You are doing the best exercise so I would not worry about the formal type. Like you said watching your points or your calories you will soon be where you want to be. Keep up the good work biblio!

I really do like the picture I took of you... you just look so sassy! We do need to make those schedules. I do like how it tells you how much you lost and what your goal time is. Mine was 2.8 pounds this week and 4 months to my 140 pound goal. Maybe I can lose it all by 12/31/08!

Great journal today. I enjoyed reading the interesting details about your work. You are a real trooper for being able to get your hands in the dirt and also work the bookshop job. Isn't it nice to cash in on those great pampering gifts? Just before I joined FS I had a thalasso spa day. It was great! About your "to-do" list: the best way to approach it is to think of it as a way to keep track of all those loose ends, with the purpose of putting your mind to rest. In other words, a "to-do" list is to keep you sane, and not to put pressure on you! You know what the priorities are, and if you just look at it often enough, you'll find that the things that need to get done eventually get done. Don't worry if you don't get everything done, but do look at it often. When you have the energy to cross off an item or two, it will happen easily.
