The Scale Bot:

You lost 3.0 lb (1.4 %) since you last weighed in on Tuesday 15 Jan 13. At that rate it will take you about 3 months to get to your goal weight.

Man oh Man, April is going to be the most awesome month ever! Yes, laughing and typing tongue in wrinkled deflated cheek.

I said something this morning I thought I'd never say in this lifetime: 'I'll be so glad when I lose more weight so I don't have to eat as much.' Crazy huh?

But trying to keep my intake at 1600-1700 in healthy food led me to add more protein else I'd be chewing vegetables from daylight to dark. Even as it is I'm having to graze on an hourly basis to avoid the 'stuffed' feeling.

SO - I was 'thinking' about maybe just adding protein BARS or SHAKES to get the calories without the quantity but decided to stop and think about that direction a bit before falling face first into the PowerBar Pit of Disaster.

I wanted to think & read about the difference in the way the body may process a 240cal protein bar vs the energy it needs to process a 240cal chicken breast before I stocked up on danger.

That, and, because, as usual, I can't get out of my own way most of the time. What began as a 'whatif' melted on the 'healthbar aisle' when, while focusing on the net carb column of the nutrition label I inadvertently allowed my glance to slide over to the caloric total and frightened another shopper away when I exclaimed outloud 'are you freaking kidding me? 280 cals for that??'

All in the day in Bellawood. Y'all have a good weekend now, ya hear?

Disclaimer: if objects in the mirror are really larger than they appear I want to talk to the mirror maker.

You could toy with the idea of making protein powder smoothies... (my fave = half a frozen banana, spoonful of peanut butter, vanilla protein powder, and ice) There are tons of possibilities - and I know some buddies add protein powder to pancake batter and things like that. Just a thought! :)

Things with healthy fats can up your calories quickly and still not sabotage your healthy efforts. Nuts and nut butters are one thing I'd suggest. Plus nuts have lots of other nutrients in them that make them so healthy for us - in small quantities, of course. And then there's always a nice glass of wine to top things off ;)

See, that's why I love this website. Erika & Evelyn, thank you. I get so lost in trying the 'quick & easy' I'm glad I slowed down & avoided the 'processed shelf food solution' and waited. Of course, duh me! Oh, by the way, something I found the other day - white chocolate peanut butter. But yea, the smoothie! Give my jaws a break ((since I need them for yakking all day!)) Thanks again!

My favorite smoothies; nonfat plain Greek yogurt, frozen sweet cherries, fresh ground almond butter, with a little nonfat milk blended in. I had some protein bars for when I had errands to run after exercise class; discovered soy protein isolate clogs up my internal plumbing. Did you know there is also dark chocolate peanut butter? Made by Peanut Butter & Company. They have several flavors; I want to try The Heat is On, a spicy hot kind. No local stores carry that flavor, so I'd have to mail order it. I get the company's email; next time they have a good deal I'm buying some. I think it would be great in recipes. Woo hoo on the weight dropping off ya!

Hey Bella! Protein bars and powders are full of sugar and added chemicals. They might overload your liver. It's healthier eating more almonds or walnuts or cottage cheese to increase proteins in your diet; plus they make your stomach fill more full than a bar or aglass of water with powder proteins.

Thanks Kat &Liz - yeah ... I felt the same about the shelf bars so I put the brakes on. I do have some dark chocolate almond butter too - having a smoothie with Greek non fat yogurt / PB / and blueberries - pretty good. Thanks again!

Hi Bella! Congrats on moving even more into a negative (positive!) direction! It motivates me to keep on moving! I am still in my own personally weight loss prison, but I made huge strides on the personal side. I am a grazer and eat my veggies all day. I love the tips here, though, and may give some of them a try myself! Have a great week!

White chocolate peanut butter?!? YUM!!!! I'm also a big fan of raspberry greek yogurt or key lime greek yogurt - they are thick and creamy and are like having dessert!

I hear you on the grazing. You can only eat so much rabbit food when you're a carnivore. I tried the Power Bars and Protein Shakes as well. They tasted too good and I overindulged. Same with the Beef jerky - devoured a whole bag in no time. I've found the only thing that works for me is moderation across all the food groups, and that takes discipline - something that, unfortunately for me, is still optional. Good luck! I'm still watching to see what brings you success.

I am so glad you are losing weight and proving that sometimes eating more is really the solution for stalls. I laughed so hard when you mentioned scaring someone at the grocery store. That was priceless and I have been there. Thanks for a great read, as always.
