Today I am completely freaked out. Last night, I ate an entire pan of frosted sugar free brownies IN MY SLEEP. No lie. I woke up and saw the pan and freaked out. I've never had anything happen like this before. I live alone and I am the only one that could have eaten them. The dog could not get to them. I was seriously thinking "Did someone get into my house?" I mean, come on. First of all, the dog would have gone nuts and I would have woken up. Second of all, like someone breaks in your house to eat brownies. Third of all, I took my blood sugar and it was definitely high. And I've had terrible gas all day from the Malitol. I cannot believe it, you guys. I ate an entire pan of frosted sugar free brownies sometime last night. 3000 calories. 500 grams of carbs. I am STUNNED. At least I exercised today and it won't be such a deficit to make up. I have heard of people taking the same kind of sleep medication I do "sleep driving" and "sleep eating" and I guess that is what is happening to me. I am just really freaked out.

That would freak me out too. I know my Aunt does that sometimes but I don't know what meds she takes. If it happens again you should talk to your dr. Also no fun eating them when you can't enjoy them. =(

My husband used to take meds for sleep and I have caught him eating and even making coffee at 3 in the morning.

ambien? I've spent a lot of time looking up recipes when I should be sleeping, or reading a book and having to read the same part again because I can't remember what i read, but haven't done any sleep-eating. What a freaky feeling that must be! Hmmm, maybe you can learn from the experience, maybe put a treat like that away someplace where you wouldn't normally, maybe even in a locked cabinet, so it wouldn't be accessible in your sleep. Maybe talk to your doctor about it. Ugh, the malitol would have killed me, lol! I guess you just shake it off and go on with your healthy living. Take care of you.

I was going to guess Ambien or Lunesta, too. One of the better sleep aids with few side effects is Trazodone. Maybe yur doc could try that for you. Oh, and sometimes they give Seroquel and that usually knocks people out but I suppose you could be sedated enough to "sleep eat" or "sleep walk." I would be more concerned about not remembering the activity than the actual eating - I would tell the doctor and see what alternatives there may be for you. Take care and let us FS Buddies know if we can help.

This is one of the side effects of sleeping pills. I had to take Ambien for a couple of months and my doctor warned me about it. He even told me to hide the car keys. It also made me feel like I was going nuts. I went to a special sleep clinic for behavior therapy (it is covered by insurance same way like any medical doctor) and they took me off medication eventually. May be you can ask your doctor for a referral.
