Lotus's Journal, 25 March 2008

Ok, down another 0.2, so I am moving again. As long as I am moving downwards it is fine if it is slow! After all, 0.2 a day is a pound in 5 days! Yesterday I was a little low on energy, and only got one workout in. I definitely think walking is a great workout though, it has always helped me lose weight. Its is supposed to be lovely weather all week so that is awesome. It is said to be in the 70's today, so I want to walk a good distance, and take Kaelyn to the park and kick the ball around with her a bit! She loves the park.
I didn't have very good quality of sleep last night. Yesterday I stumbled onto a pro-anorexic site called Ana's Angel, and it was very disturbing to me. There were tips for anorexics, and girls posted pictures of themselves, literally walking skeletons. And they outwardly say they want to look skeletal and see bones rather than any fat tissue! It made me have nightmares all night.
I don't know how many of you I have told this but I had issues with extreme dieting in the past that were on the verge of an eating disorder. I got down to 115 and thought I still needed to lose another 5 pounds, when there was literally nothing left to lose. I think I was just afraid of gaining it back. But at 5' 6" that is a bit extreme. 115 is the lowest I am supposed to go to still be in a healthy range. I admit I wouldn't mind being 115 again, but no way will I go lower than that that. I think 118-120 is perfect for me(size 2!) I'm not sure what size I am right now. I am still trying to wear my 8's and they are ridiculously baggy in the butt, and one of my pairs actually had to be retired because it was falling off!

GREAT job on getting the scale to move!! How scary that there is such a site out there. How sad that we have to be so weary of such sites of information. Heres to a better nights sleep! You're going great!

Great wokr on getting things moving again. You're such a fantastic example for Kaelyn - she needs to grow up knowing all about staying healthy through sensible eating and exercise. This seemingly increasing trend towards extremes in childrens' attitudes towards their weight is pretty frightening, but I think all we can do is try to set the very best example. BTW - I checked out that Zig Zagging calculator and it looks great. I've already set up my own spreadsheet to customise the suggested intake to my own levels - somewhere between Fat Loss and Extreme Fat Loss!! I'm quite excited to see if that helps boost my flagging weight loss! :)

It's soooo cool when the pants get baggy! What I'd give for mine to get like that! :) you're doing great, friend!

Great job! I don't think that will happen to you again - you're losing the weight healthy and you have all of us to yell at you if you turn "anorexic"!

Oh yeah and I looked at the zig zagging calculator too. It told me that for extreme weight loss I should alternate between 1000 and 1125 calories.

Amazing Job! I am so proud. I also had disordered eating a few years back. Thanks to the hateful people I went to school with. It is very scary to see those sites. I think they call it "Thinspiration" or something. Those are the people we have to hope get help. Keep up your amazing job, you look fabulous. I'm so happy to have you on my team!

I don't think I was ever anirexic, but it was frightening seeing some of the similarities in behovior such as becoming increasingly obsessed over every calorie. It kind of hit me hard for some reason. Last Sunday we had communion in church and it crossed my mind how many calories anre in that 2 tbs of grape juice and thumbnail sized cracker! I felt guilty for even thinking it. That is getting a little too picky...

I think its so easy to become calorie obsessed. But sometimes necessary. I havent been counting calories for a while and Ive put on weight. :( I think you are losing weight healthily at the moment Lotus, its just knowing when to stop. You have a sensible head on you, and a lovely daughter to look after, so you'll always be fine, I know it. Its just hard to work out how to maintain your happy weight, without having to live your life counting all the time. x

I've never looked at those pro-ana sites, but just to know they exist is very disturbing. I too have had anorexic tendencies in the past-- but not anorexia. It's good to know you've put that behind you. what is the zig zagging calc every one is talking about? I'll look back in your journal and see if I missed an entry.

if you haven't looked at them i don't recommend it unless you are a strong person! It seriously is still bothering me. I just clicked on the wrong site and once I started reading it, it was like a train wreck. You're horrified but you can't look away.

I know so many young girls (pre and early teens) that are verging on the obsessive when it comes to their weight. I have heard them refer to friends as Ana's or Mia's. I know one little girl-5 yrs old that thinks she is fat. At the gym there are at least 3 women with anorexia. One in particular is so thin, I wonder how she can stand upright, let alone run on the treadmill for 8 miles. It hurts to watch her. I am not convinced that the gym has some kind of moral duty to intervene? Anyway-good job Lotus and I cannot wait (no pun intended) to have some space between me and my pants!
