Self experimentation -- The Only Way!

Mixing it up with a higher carb / lowered calorie way of eating for a hot minute. Nothing changes unless I change. (This is mind blowing for me at the moment)

I will not fear carbs because just like calories, not all carbs are equal in the way the body processes them. I am working on minimizing the processed ones I eat as best as possible can because they are the junk ones. The ones that don't satiate me and I can eat and eat and eat until it's too late.

I've been studying a few journals from others similar to me who run when they can, lift when they can, and I am amazed/intrigued when I see how many carbs they eat. When I look closer at their food logs, I notice their carb sources are mainly from real foods.

If this works, this will be a game changer for me and maybe other who have struggled with this.

Yesterday, I ate a ridiculous amount of carbs (249.61 net) but it was mostly planned. I slept like a baby last night and this morning the scale showed a lower number than Monday morning's weigh in.

Mon - Cal = 1578 / N Carbs = 249.61 [Actual]
Tue - Cal = >>>Planned<<< Sub 1000 / >>>Planed<<< N Carbs=121.17
Tue - Cal = 991 / N Carbs = 116.77 [Actual]
Wed - Cal = >>>Planned<<< Sub 1200 / >>>Planed<<< N Carbs=144.95
Thu - Cal = TBD
FRI - Cal = TBD

My theory is that If I am able to eat this many carbs with lowered calories, when I reintroduce the other macros (Protein and Fats) which means more calories, I should see the scale to continue to move in my favor and eventually it will slow down or stop. This is completely an opposite approach I am using towards getting the scale to go in the right direction. I don't mind being a guinea pig. My body, my rules. Could this be the end of the stress associated from seeing the scale go in the wrong direction when reintroducing carbs? This usually not true weight gain as the body needs more water to process the carbs and this shows up as a higher number on the scale.

I am so psyched because both my containers of rice I brought to work to eat as my meals are still in the fridge and in less than 10 minutes, I will take one out, return it to my backpack and this will be a part of my planned dinner when I get home tonight.

I GOT THIS!!!!

Onward - Carbs, Carbs, Carbssss!

#Update 1. Swapped out my planned chicken for cooked ground beef because I was too impatient to strip it off the bone and weigh it and weighing cooked ground beef and then mixing it in my rice was more fun. Swapped out beer for seltzer because I wanted to stick to what I intended vs letting life get in my way.

whole foods are always a bonus if you can tolerate them. Glad you discovered a new way to test yourself. the less processed the more your body gets from them.

I'm doing the same, not worrying so much about how many carbs I'm eating, but doing my best to get the majority of them from real food, although I do still get snack-itis and chow on Fritos sometimes, lol. Making sure I eat enough fruit and veggies is also ensuring I'm getting decent fiber. It also made it more tolerable last week on vacation to splurge on the not so healthy carbs, I mean, I'm in the South, we do hush puppies with seafood, lol. I enjoyed real pizza one night too! I think mixing it up helps too. You're doing great, Ches! Very inspiring!

Sounds like you've reached a high level of healing. Increased insulin sensitivity, and overall in great health. Congratulations! Heard yesterday that beans cause about half of the spike that most other types of carbs does.

Carbsss, is right. Running/lifting and sleeping like a baby are all the best therapy.

CHES - Nothing ventured nothing gained! Let's see what happens! If this works for you it is only because you did not give up and kept trying! - - Ironically I am about to 'carb up' before my workout (Jack in the Box ultimate cheeseburger and fries). However, in my case I AM packing on the weight and plan to return to fasting in a week or so...

Agreed. I am a plant-powered, high-carb (complex), low fat (mostly plant-based monos and polys) kind of gal myself! My health markers are great, my weight is fine, and I am sailing through menopause! Okay, I made that last part up, but the first two are true, and because of all the awesome trytophan I am making from legumes and sweet potatoes I can at least laugh at my menopause--most days. :-)

Thanks @baskington, @LSG417, @Diddlee, @Diablo360x, @adefwebserver, @AprilLifts, @Swedishblondie, and @elsie chag. Today, I planned my work and worked my plan.

Thanks @TtinaBee. Impressive 20 year weight loss maintenance. @appachetiger lost weight with KETO and now eats a plant based diet and as a meat eater / lover, that concept boggled my brain. If I could lift like a beast and run like the wind, I could consider this when I am down another 20 pounds and or on the way. Anything is possible.

Looking forward to your next journal with results :-)

Thanks @mandykane1b and @Draglist. My last run was 8/8 and gym was 8/9. I hurt my hip so badly that I popped 1200 MG of ibuprofen on 8/9 and 8/10 for pain management. I also crawled on all fours up the stairs to go to my bedroom both nights (holding the rail didn't help). Getting old sucks but I'm a fighter. I will not quit. Going to bed now before the piggy in me wakes up and demands junk food.

@Draglist - Yeah, I am now in the gym 3 days a week with those young guys, but if my carbs are above 150 I gain weight like a sumo wrestler... But, I am really interested in what @chesgreen discovers with this latest experiment because UNFOURTUNATELY I have to carb up on weight lifting days. I would REALLY like to see how I can do it without so much 'damage'.

@chesgreen - Please log your food carefully. If 'eating clean' makes the difference I need to know. Thanks!

You certainly got this. No processed food - or as little as possible - is a good way to go. Why did we think man could beat nature in food that's good for us.
22 Aug 18 by member: minitata
Thanks @minitata. @adefwebserver, I use a digital scale, zero it out after I put a plate on it and then put food in it until I reach my intended number. To be precise, I put 10 rice grains back in the pot last night because I wanted a specific gram amount for my rice #MADSCIENTIST
