Sandy701's Journal, 23 November 2011

3.1 miles walked today after the nice rain showers overnight. A bit cooler, but the humidity hasn't left yet and the temps are still nearly 70, but should drop later today.

I'm off to a catered lunch for DH's work....a Thanksgiving for the group, so to speak. Will keep my fingers crossed for good food. No menus to look at because this is a private person doing all the cooking.

It is nice for his work to do that for spouses too! At least you got your walk done, enjoy the food (just the good stuff) & the company!

Hi all....found turkey, ham and a great big salad at the luncheon, so that was all good. I did see a few surprised faces on the serving personnel who were all ready to add mashed potatoes, gravy, corn, grean beans (with unknown extra gooey stuff), rolls, etc. to my plate but I just smiled and walked on by. Desserts were in a different area and were fairly easy to bypass. All in all, a very, very nice luncheon. I esp. appreciated that it wasn't potluck, as it has nearly always been in the past. Then, on the way home, I had just turned onto a residential street within this retirement "compound" when I noticed a lizard right there on the dash looking at me!!! AAAAAACK!!!! They're harmless but I still don't like them. They're about 3" long and about the same in the tail.....those are the "larger" ones. Luckily, DH was right behind me and so I flagged him down quick and we cautiously "encouraged" the guy OUT of my car! These things can move and dart very quickly and they hop and climb, so you've got to have a plan of attack to get them moved where you want them to go. Whew! The guy's now got a new home over on the other side of town. Now, I've got a pumpkin cheesecake in the oven - another first try recipe.

Ummm, pumpkin cheesecake sounds luscious...good thing you got rid of your "guest", one more mouth to feed cheesecake to is NOT a good thing! I don't like those creepy critters either, he probably thought he was gonna get him some cheesecake, so he took up the nearest residence someplace else!

Well done at the luncheon!!! I am impressed!! I am glad you got the lizard removed. My hubby accidentally de-tailed one when mowing our lawns last week LOL

Sandy, sounds like you had a nice luncheon. I imagine the little lizzard was as scared as you were, lol. Have a lovely Thanksgiving. :)

GG...we don't have any idea how he got in there as I keep my windows up, even in the garage. PLUS...DH had everything out of the car not all that long ago when he detailed it for me (nice guy!). But, this is the time of the year - transitional weather - when they tend to show up in places you don't want them.

Squiggs, these are the same kind of lizards than can lose their tails when frightened. Then the tail remnant twitches and, hopefully, catches the attention of the predator while the now-tail-less lizard runs off to a safer destination. We managed to get this one to move out without damaging his tail, so he's really none the worse for wear.

Yvonne, it was a good thing DH was behind me, as it really helps to have 2 sets of eyes keeping track of where the lizard is going....they move SO fast! There are a whole lot of places to get hide in the car, so we wanted him to move in a particular way to get out. Of course, I had strategically removed my open purse from the car while we did this maneuver....LOL!!

Gigi, I suspect the lizard was a bit scared and puzzled (no bugs to eat in the car's environment) and will be MUCH happier and well-fed out in nature. I'm so fortunate this happened on an extremely quiet street and at a very slow speed. I'd hate to think what might have happened if he had been running around on the dash....when I was driving at a higher speed.....in a lot of traffic.....well, you get the picture!
