Goal Weight:170.0 lb
following: Gigi39's own diet
performance: losing 1.1 lb a week

My starting weight August 2011 (not 2012) in FS was 224.

I am a 73 year old woman with a wonderful husband and family. This is the second time that I am starting the Atkins diet. When I started about eight years ago, my weight had gone up to 232 lbs. It came down very slowly to 210 lbs. Several years ago I had a small stroke and started to follow the WOE suggested by the hospital. Then, because of a lot of leg-pain, I thought to cut out most meats, ate only fish, whole grains and vegetables. That effort lasted only little while.
My weight went UP again (to 224). My daughter suggested the new Atkins plan. She is on it and almost at goal, so is her husband. What I like about this way of eating, it allows me healthy vegetables plus fish and chicken (my choices).

On the low carb way of life I expect to lose the weight and have several productive years ahead of me.

I still play a “mean” keyboard and lead worship at our local Calvary Chapel twice a month. God has been good to me.

Isa 41:10
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Tea, does it count as water?
I have started to drink Chai/Green tea instead of coffee for the most part. Does it count towards my water intake? I drink a lot of the tea, about 32 oz in the morning. I also drink water, but most days not the full 64 plus oz.

Has your Cholesterol Blood-Test reading improved on the Atkins diet?
The blood test result was LDL 119, down from 180. This was in two months time. I have been taking 1/2 of 5 mg Lipitor (2 1/2 mg). I feel some of my symptoms return, leg pressure and cramps. Now I am taking the Lipitor every other day, guess I should tell my doctor. I don't think it was the small dose of the statin that brought my readings down, but my diet. The doctor wants the LDL under 100.

Staying on Track on Vacation
I just spent one week in Palm Springs, CA. in a Time-Share. We ate out three times, one buffet, twice at the Cheesecake Factory. There was much to be tempted by, but I chose to stick with my low carb plan. I slid a couple of times, but not by much. For in the Time-Share I brought my #1 Carb and Zero carb bread with me, Smart Balance with olive oil (60 calories a TBS), Polaner sugar free preserves, Egg Beaters, Sugar Free chocolates (Dove dark, some Russel Stovers), Sugar Free Almond milk (or Silk, low in calories (35 to 40 a cup). no carbs, and had Costco's Chicken Salad a lot (no carbs), lettuce, cucumbers, cherry tomatos, Splenda and such. I also ate fresh strawberries.

Since you are staying with family, could you bring some of your own food choices? Say to them that you have to eat this way because of your health. They will usually not push in that case.

Have fun!

I don't know what happened, but I lost track of this post Sad . Thank you all for the information. I am getting a blood test this week, will see what the results are now. I am hoping they are much improved. @ Greener, could it be the generic Lipitor that my be less effective? I hope you get it under control. Smile
