its because those infomercials like to sell "magic pills" and quick fixes which entice people who are desperate.

It's really great to have an open minded Dr that is becoming very interested in Diet and Healthcare. She called me and chatted about Hubby's results, she took note of the websites I use for information and my general food intake, then asked me about Mom giving it a try...I explained my situation she said she would bring it up in her next visit which is on the 22nd....I just can't leave well enough alone ya know?

You doctor may have much more success than you do, simply because she is not related to your mother and because many older people still have the attitude that the doctor knows all! Good luck!

That is great that you both have a doctor who is interested and helpful. I love that your mom was secretly reading the Obesity Code - good call that you're keeping it on the down low. Even baby steps might help your mom, like eating 3 meals a day and no snacking. It's interesting to me that my parents (in their 90's and both diabetic) are in a retirement home and they just eat 2 meals a day because that's all they have the appetite for. That probably keeps their diabetes from worsening. They are not overweight.

Question about The Obesity Code - is there really a lot of information in it, as in, more than you get in the videos? I read some Amazon reviews and most people adore it but there are many comments that they wished there had been more on an instructional level. [Sorry to hijack your post...]

There is so much info online now about fasting that it isn't necessary to read this book. I like the book. As far as information, you might pick up something more that you didn't by watching videos.

Trackin, most of the stuff in his book is a reproduction of the information he has in his blog, the thing is, he has edited it a bit to keep from coming seriously under fire by his medical peers. The gist of his message....is stop eating all of the fake food that Big Food passes off as healthy, eat whole foods with plenty of healthy fat, stop snacking, eat when you are hungry and not because it's time, and for healing your insulin response....fast. Fasting is flexible, fits in with whatever WOE you choose, fast as long as you feel comfortable, short term fasts from 12-24 hours, do them every other day, twice a week, once a week, once a month...long term fasts 24-96 hours. It takes some of the fear that has been instilled in us about starvation mode, explains some pretty interesting results I have been having with information about how our body is regulated by hormones.............Now, two years ago I decided that something was fishy with the whole diet thing, I have been using sugar sparingly for over 20 years...since my mother was diagnosed with diabetes. I used artificial sweetener in all of my drinks and my baking, so my calories were reduced, if CICO worked, I should have lost weight just from doing that, if weight gain is hormone driven and the artificial sweeteners cause a hormone response well that explains my steady increasing weight, because my calories never went up. So...I'm a believer. It makes sense to me.

Allright! Spying on your mom's reading, I love it! Thank you for the synopsis of the book - I'll check out his blog. I've long been aware of the hormonal response to foods as well as how hormones literally shape our bodies. Now I'm thinking fasting is the missing piece for long-term weight control and just giving the body even a 14 hour break from eating seems to have beneficial effects on my digestion. I've made it to 16:8 but I do get hungry and have to wait it out. From what you're saying it sounds like 14:10 may be just as effective, especially since I do it every day.

Hey...she's done..LOL I'm still not going to say anything to her about it. Now it needs to cook in her brain...ferment a bit. My job is done there, rest is up to her.

Wow, debra, your subterfuge seems to have resulted in a great benefit. And, as she mulls over what she has read, the benefits may increase a thousand-fold. Yay for The Sneaky Approach, good on you!

I'm laughing so hard right now. But seriously, I understand your frustration. Lead by quiet example and she might be more willing to make the changes.

LOL it really wasn't a ploy, after she refused to take my tablet and read the book, I figured an email with the link and password would be kinda like a parting shot....I was being snarky. She and I have an issue with being last word freaks. However, I always underestimate the power of curiosity. This time it played in my favor, the seeds are planted, if they come to fruit...great! If they don't....well I tried, even if the means were more out of spite than goodwill.

And now I just read the secret Kindle reading! Lol. I'm glad. Yes being quiet about it is the way to go. My mom and I had the same issues.

Debra stories are too much fun to read ! Keep it coming! Lolol What is the blog website address for the author of the obesity code? I tried to find out but didn't get anywhere.

It's called Intensive Dietary Management and the author is Dr. Jason Fung.

some people need to learn the hard way.. my mom never drinks water. So when she asks me to take her some where I wont take her all the way unless she drinks some water on the way. I basically take her hostage and force her to drink lol

She just called me, can't get the TV remote to work....so I must go and fix it, I am sure that since I have not owned a TV in 20 years that she knows more about them than I do, so she has something else on her mind and this is just subterfuge :)
