It seems like the hardest time for me is after supper. I need to stop eating at night. Does anybody have any advice or tips to keep yourself from snacking after supper??

this may sound silly but ..I have tried chewing gum, it seemed to help alittle. I have tried alot of the dessert flavored ones also..pretty good. I also drink about half of a diet snapple sometimes. A friend brushes her teeth & says that helps her not want to eat again. I guess you just have to try a few things & see what works for you. Good luck & hope this helps you alittle........

I've chewed the ice in my drink as a substitute for the pretzles DH was eating. It worked. Gum. Drink liquids. This is one of my biggest problems too.

Maybe you could make a small allowance for nighttime when calculating your meals for the day? Leave about 2-3 net carbs open for nighttime, and have a serving of macadamia nuts and a stick of cheese. I've never been a late-night snacker so I could be way off-base here, but wouldn't it be easier to make it work for you instead of trying to go cold turkey? Sorry if I've overstepped my bounds.

BTW -- I'll totally second the brushing teeth thing. Brush your teeth super-well, gargle, floss, the whole 9 yards. Maybe make that a rule before bed, that you've gotta do that no matter what. Then you'll be less likely to eat at night because that's a lot of time spent and you don't want to do it again?

I just tell myself that I can't. I am trying to stick to The Skinny Rules and it is a biggie on there for me. After supper I fill a huge drinking cup with straw with water and I work on it all evening/night. Not the same but I have seen a lot more downward movement since I banned myself for late or after supper eating.

Thanks guys!! I am going to try the teeth brushing earlier than normal and then the water is a good idea. I tend to not drink much in the evening so that might help me alot!!!

Looking at your diet calendar, you probably just need to eat more during the day...not enough calories (or not enough fat) in the diet can make you want to snack in the evenings.

Drink water and eat a few almonds. Fills me right up

Also start counting your sugar alcohols. They are evil

Melkiah -- that varies from person to person. I get no trouble from sugar alcohols and do not count them, though others certainly do.

Why take the risk Lemonella?

Uh, because I intend to enjoy myself as much as I can without sacrificing weight loss. That includes eating sugar-free chocolate when I'm gushing blood once a month. Duh.

Just a thought, but if you don't drink much in the evenings, that could be the cause of your snack cravings. I have read in several places that thirst represents itself as hunger because the body can't separate the two. So drinking water in the evenings definitely might help curb the cravings! I notice that I tend to snack more if I drink less. I also snack out of boredom, so I try to find an activity where my hands are busy. I love to read, but it invites snacking. Therefore, cross-stitch works better. My hands and mind are occupied, and I can't eat at the same time!

No need to be hostile Lemonella. Let the results speak for themselves

Melkiah, honey, you need to come down off your little box there and stop judging people's choices when it comes to the diet we all share. Condescending to other members and then accusing them of hostility is not a good look, so please just take a seat and be done for the day. Thanks in advance!

I find that drinking water and chewing gum also works for me :)

I like hot mint tea in the evening. It adds a nice finishing touch to the day. The mint smells nice and has a nice calming effect. Might help get some water in that way too.
