adefwebserver's Journal, 20 November 2020

I decided to record my weight today because **only** gaining 1 pound in two weeks is **positive progress**.

So far this month I consumed 33,401 calories and expended 46,514 calories. A calorie deficit is clearly not working.

My problem is my daily carbs are 97 grams a day. When I lost nearly 50 pounds two years ago my daily carbs were around 20 grams a day.

I need to get back to that.

For my cardiovascular health, today I 🏃🏾‍♂️ run...

😎 Life is Good! Have a great day everyone!
193.0 lb Lost so far: 14.0 lb.    Still to go: 29.0 lb.    Diet followed reasonably well.

That is great! I think it is postive also. Working on good health is important. I plan to run as well. But we got a lot of snow. I may find a place they cleared up

@liv001 - Thanks for stopping by! Yes, I need to be grateful I am able to run 3 days a week. No snow in Southern California! 😜

Do you measure your sleep habits? I need at least 7 hours to burn 🔥 the calories & repair the body.

@srossca - Thanks! I am thankful that my sleep is very good. 7-8 hours daily 😁

@adefwebserver: I started following you a few months back b/c your approach was different and I was interested in seeing how things worked for you incase my own approach started failing me. While I dont fully understand your method, I can't help but think that perhaps your constant changing it up could be confusing your metabolism maybe even shutting it down. One thing I've heard from several FSers is that the body takes time - weeks/months - to adapt to dietary change. (see @Egull1 posts). Totally want you to succeed. Not sure how tall you are but our ages and wt start/targets are similiar. I eat about 2100 cal/day with 200+g carbs usually. Protein 100g ish. I'm super sedentary. I do power walk 30m 2-4X per week so I exercise much less. You cal intake is far less too. And your sleep is generally good; my sucks! (scratching head now). You track everything, are determinded too. @adefwebserver: by those cal defs you should have lost about 3lb so far. 🤔 This stumps me. CICO works unless you're on some weight-gaining side effect meds so I'm thinking that (a) CO (expenditure) is being overestimate based on some yet-to-be-born "normal" person of your age, wt, height, body-type and (b) some CI (intake) is being underestimate or maybe both. Wishing you success on this journey of yours👍

Because my sleep is poor - 4.5h sleep followed by 3h toss&turn followed by 3h sleep - I kind of do a 14:10 IF with no restrictions. Being retired allows me to wake up when I want. Usually eat btw 10A & 8P. Not sure how much this helps my approach but things seem to be fine. I'm never hungry and have been able to maintain goal weight +/- 3% since 11/22/2019. Took 7.5 months to lose 35 lbs. Anyway, maybe this helps but everyone is different so I don't know. Sorry for the long post, but wishing you the best!!

@sk.17 - My diet has worked well for me in the past, and I kept the weight off for nearly two years. The COVID situation is what changed. My only problem is that I **mentally** cannot bring myself to stick to the diet (because the COVID situation is still going on). However, it appears the **gain** is slowing as I am doing better on my diet. Thanks!

Being able to record just a one pound shift over two weeks is a win in my books. I hope you have a good weekend. Being able to run is a lovely gift!

Quick question: are you monitoring your body fat? When I’m working out I noticed my weight was not dropping but my body fat was dropping. I bought a scale that measures the body fat, water, muscle mass, etc. check it out. I would start there.

@moufette123 - The reason the liquid fasting works for me is that it forces me to hit <20 grams of carbs a day. I just can't seem to keep it anywhere near that amount when eating solid food. I know others can, but, after all these years I know I can't. Right now I am only doing 3 'liquid fasts' days a week. I need to do more, but, with **COVID Stress** I can't bring myself to do more.

@KenricT - I know that dropping my carbs causes me to lose weight. The only reason I am not losing weight is I am not dropping my carbs :)

I'm with you in terms of keeping the carbs low. I can be in a calorie deficit but if it is more than 50g carbs, I either don't lose or even gain. I've learned that OMAD and less than 40g of carbs allows me to lose. I know it doesn't makes sense to people who aren't insulin resistance because CICO works for them regardless of the source of the carbs. I've learned a lot from you - thank you.

@Joelmel - Yes, I am very much like you.
