AmberLaine's Journal, 31 March 2018

So, the first 3 weeks of maintenance seem to have gone rather well.

The only problem is, I haven't made the shift yet. Not really, anyways.

I have continued to follow my lower calorie bracket for the duration of my current workout program, but I haven't been as strict on myself. So, loosely following that 80/20 lifestyle. [Note: I have not stopped having my cheat day - though I have made attempts at reducing how much I indulge in on such days.]

Spring break (10-18 March) was the worst bit - with everyone (husband is a teacher) home, Pi Day 🥧😛, friends in town, my son's birthday, and St. Paddy's Day festivities - it was difficult to remain on plan. As in, I allowed it to be so.

Over the next week I stuck to my plan, for the most part. I don't recall any major slip-ups. And this past week has been pretty okay. I went out for lunch with my mother and sister on Monday, where I had a burger wrapped in lettuce - so I could have a few french fries. Wednesday, I went out again with my mom and had a cobb salad, which contained too much protein (if that is even a thing, haha), and too much "healthy fat" (you choose between bleu cheese and avocado!) and even though I ordered it on the side, I probably used too much dressing. Add in one Palmer's chocolate after stuffing eggs for my kids' school egg hunts, and you have my week.

I am starting P90X3 - an intense resistance/lifting workout - next week (8 April). I will be upping my calories as necessary for maintenance/muscle building. I do not know when I shall weigh-in again - still haven't decided if I am doing it monthly or bi-monthly.

Lastly, attatched is a picture I took for #flexfriday yesterday. I have been kinda marveling at it for the last 24 hours. I cannot believe it is me.

You have done so well. Maintenance is a different challenge to weight loss. Be careful not to up your calories too much, if at all, when you start your training programme. Most people over estimate how many calories they burn by exercising. And be be careful not to fall into the trap of rewarding yourself with goodies after a hard session.

Thank you for the advice, Bunty145. I have looked into that myself. Beachbody has multiple calculations for maintenance, which supposedly take into account the workouts, but I find they give dramatically different answers. I have opted to follow the lowest of these brackets (1800-2099) because anything more seems really excessive. I have been on the 1200-1499 bracket. But, as I said I plan on muscle training, and muscle needs fuel. If I find I am not getting desired results, I will have to reevaluate.

That sounds a good plan. I have very good muscle mass for my age and maintain on about 2100 calories a day. I can quite easily eat a lot more than that and often do (that's why I am here!) I don't want to build more muscle but I do take a bit of extra protein to help keep what I have got and I need to eat unrefined carbs for energy. I always train first thing on an empty stomach.

I'm now on maintenance and tbh I'm finding it harder than if I was still trying to lose the weight. Im still losing, trying to up the calories to not lose without losing control of what I'm putting in...urghh!
