Carolyn Ray's Journal, 02 December 2022

I hope adding walking on the treadmill will take some weight off. I have been at this for 6 months and only lost 25 lbs. I'm staying under my calorie max every day I think my metabolism has really slowed down for this sitting around in retirement is really going to get me. I must be more dedicated to exercise. I have always HATED IT!!!

I'm a fellow exercise-hater. I've always been that way. Set a small goal for yourself - one that you can achieve on the worst day of your life. It might be something like, "Put on my walking shoes." Start to do just that, every day, and see if it leads to bigger and better things.

Carolyn -- I always say I love activity, but hate to exercise. If you can find something you love to do, it becomes easier. Walk, hike, bike, dance, bowl...anything where you move and are having fun 😀

25 pounds in six months is a great and sustainable achievement! Many reputable studies have shown that slow and steady weight loss is maintained much longer (lifetime anyone?) than fast precipitous weight loss. Good for you!

Building muscle will burn fat. Maybe try smart bells. Some kind of strength training v. cardio should be beneficial.

if you're thinking your metabolism has slowed, I recommend listening to a podcast called mind pump. they give some great easy to understand info on metabolic damage. but 25lbs in 6 months is perfect amount of weight loss. that's basically a pound a week! you are killing it!

My advice is the same as writingwyo. Treadmills can be brutal and soul sucking but the same time spent walking on a nature trail can feel like a reward. And yes 25lbs is great progress! Eat well, find fun active pursuits and blink your eyes and you will be where you want to be. Awesome job so far!

Walking is amazing for your body too but treadmills can be boring, maybe more outdoor walks? I, like the others, think your progress is amazing!! 👏🏻
