jsfantome's Journal, 06 March 2011

Just want to journal out some of what’s going on in my head. The more I focus on my woe it seems the worse it gets. Started up exercising again, weight gain. Increased water intake, weight gain. Been eating too much salt, weight gain.

Not sure how I am feeling about all of this.

Definitely back to feeling bloated. And uncomfortable. And completely unsure about what to do about it. Thinking I may need to tough it out and drop back to Induction, yet again, and get this back to 140. (currently up to 145.)

I really thought this was from weight training and exercising again. I just don’t know. I hate this up and down, yo-yo’ing.

I have not been ‘cheating’ – but I have not been tracking either. Thinking I need to go back to that for awhile. But I do think I am still not in control of portion sizing. One thing I have noticed over the last year, especially with this way of eating, is that I make excuses for ‘overeating’ … particularly protein (meat serving sizes are too big), but I find them satisfying my hunger and justify it by thinking I won’t go looking for something else to eat.

Have I really dealt w/ my eating habits and issues? This seems all too familiar, only different.

Ok, Induction Only this week. Water. Mild Exercise. Portion Control. (particularly proteins). Use scale and measure. Track. Journal.

Hope you are all well… Much Love.

Paula, I know just what you mean about the more you think about it the harder it seems! My weight is going up as well and it really is the exercise I'm doing because I'm doing nothing wrong! I'm hoping this turns around very soon or I know I will start to think why am I bothering! It scares me how much my weight goes up with exercise!

Paula...I know its hard not to focus on your WOE, especially when you are feeling, "something" isn't right. You are very tuned in and sensitive to your body and WOE, which is such a strength for you...you can Immediately identify small changes...and adjust. Sounds like a plan for the week ahead...Enjoy your day. Hope it is relaxing and filled with laughter. Hugs.

Lea, I can't explain it ... the exercise part... but it seems it happens every time! Maybe some others on here understand it better, and could jump in. I also have noticed w/ Atkins in particular, I can only go slow. (exercise that is.) Walk in moderation. Weights in moderation. Too much, and I stall out. Just the right amount and I lose fat and gain muscle. AAAGGGHHH it can be so frustrating! I literally have to hold myself back at the gym - because I know if I go all out...my next week or two will spike.

Raven, thank you!!! I mean it, sometimes it's hard to remember...'I've got this!' And I do, I know I do ... and I'm grateful to see and pick up on the little changes, but crazy how 2 lbs can feel sooooo different. I feel like a big, bloated (did this to myself w/ too many nuts again) goof ball! Seriously, eating too many nuts is simply not worth this! Think I will enjoy getting the sodium back down, back to 3 meals, 2 snacks, plenty of water, and all clean induction (plus my 2 strawberries a day!) :))))

Paula, I don't know if you have checked how many mg of sodium you are having a day, but check it on view preferences to see. Sodium intake should be 1200-1400 mg/day to minimize water retention, bloating, etc. I have that as a personal goal of mine and am doing well staying there as difficult as it can be. I see many folks journals where sodium is consistently upwards to over 5000mg a day. If blood pressure is at all an issue sodium intake is critical to reducing that. I am on a BP med but looking forward to getting off of it next month hopefully.

Paula...same here with the "Sunflower Seeds"...totally not happening this week. I tend to use them at night, keeps my hands and mouth busy, stops salt cravings...always get the ones that have the shells, and a little goes a long way...but the "sodium" is truly sabotaging my efforts. Tossing out any I have in the house this morning....!

Babs, thank you... I was actually just trying to go back and input yesterday's food from memory (I know not the best ...but...) and my sodium was just under 2000mg. (if I got everything and if I selected the right portions etc.) Will continue to track and keep my eye on it. It may just be I am more hungry from the exercise, and I am taking in way more carbs than usual. I was still hovering at 25 carbs, and then bam, yesterday was almost 50! Hello!!! Wow, tracking is such a useful tool! Note to self... thanks again, much love.

Good morning Paula! Sorry for you're not in your best happy spirit today.. I think it is so valuable to have all the buddies caring ideas & suggestions in this journey. I know how wonderfully you've been doing with your food & exercise. You are doing AWESOME! And you will continually make great progress in your time. Sometimes our body wants to stop and take a breath. Have a peace-filled Sunday:)

Paula - I did look at your journal back when you were recording your meals. You have some huge sodium drivers there, but for the most part of what I saw your dailys were pretty good. Take a look back and maybe you are consuming some of those big drivers lately? ie: kielbasa, sausage will really throw the sodium out of wack. Maybe it is just going to be some better choices and still being able to fit into your Atkins WOE and still keep the sodium down.

Babs, I totally agree... and I have cut out the biggest offenders. Haven't had them in at least 10 days...maybe longer. I was seeing the same trend, as I have sodium as one of my nutritional values to watch. And boy can they creep up on you QUICK! I don't eat much processed stuff, so I didn't think a couple of sausage would hurt...WOW! So, I stopped that!!! (might be low carb, but still not the BEST choice for me, so I purposed myself to go w/ the BEST choice, over not.) All things considered, I do think it might be the jump in higher carbs. I have not been overly paying attention, and the nuts have been salted, and an everyday overeating event for about a week now. That will end, as of yesterday!! :) And thank you so much for looking, and caring, and helping me! Much appreciated!!! Love.

Happynow, funny thing is, sometimes it takes the culmination of these things to brighten my mood. Once I can get past the 'oh crap I am going in the wrong direction'... then I feel challenged and empowered to find the answers and change it. That's the beauty of this woe. If it worked last week, it'll work this week. We often change things ever so slightly to meet our own tastes and preferences, but that doesn't mean our bodies are willing to play along! Just our tastebuds! Well, my tastebuds are not trying to reach my goals, so they are just gonna have to deal!!! Thanks for stopping by - and hope you are well too! Have a great sunday!

Morning Paula, try not to stress as that will make it worse. A big part of it has to be fluid and that will make you feel bloated. I hate when I sound like I am a fitness guru but I know about the fluid thing. I have it all the time. Hope your day is good to you..Love ya....Bren

paula i would not be too concerned about the protien size portions if you are going to the gym regularly! i know i had a problem with sending myself into starvation mode when doing atkins and walking a lot! increased my protien level on the days that i work out to help me not burn my body muscle and it has helped! but normaly i just throw in larger chicken breast. i tried protien shakes but these just seem to spike carb cravings so have nixed those and just gone to eating a whole chicken breast instead of the half

Paula, it is so frustrating when we are trying to start reverting back to not tracking. I don't really know that I will ever be able to do that.
