Debbie Cousins's Journal, 12 May 2019

I’ve got my alarm set to call my doctor’s office at precisely 8am when they open tomorrow. They always reserve a couple of same-day appointments for whoever calls first. On my list of things to tell doc (BESIDES the depression) are that I get dizzy at least 10 times a day whenever I get up from sitting, my hair is falling out like crazy and I gained over TEN pounds in under THREE weeks! I know that last one was my own fault, but one of the anti-depressant medications he put me on DOES cause weight-gain. I’m praying he’ll have wisdom in tweaking my meds so I can be motivated, productive and disciplined again! I’ve done better the past two days, but still not NEARLY as well as I was doing prior to Easter. I’ll keep y’all posted. I want the OLD Debbie back!!!

Did you eat enough to gain those 10#? That would be a surplus of 35,000 or 1667/day. Probably about double what you should be eating. If not then it could be meds or something else. The hair would concern me. Again it could be meds but I’m thinking run some blood tests and check for things like keyten said. Makes me think a deficiency somewhere. As for the meds, man I hate meds lol. I’m on Wellbutrin. Generic actually, bupropion. It doesn’t cause weight gain. Well my dr said of course it can but it’s not supposed to. I’m also on oxcarbazepine but that’s for bipolar/manic so don’t ask for that if you don’t have mixed episodes or the manic stages. If you do then that med hasn’t cause weight gain for me either. When they upped the dose I went a bit crazy but took it to the previous dose and right as rain now! Hope you get in and have some answers tomorrow!

Be patient with the med tweaking. My husband is on multiple meds for bipolar, depression, anxiety. He gained a lot of weight. Its been 3 years and he is still in the tweaking phase. Be patient with yourself and your doctors and don't beat yourself up over the weight gain. He finally seems to have his right. Prayers for you.

I’m sorry you’re going through this. I know how hard tweaking meds is. I know in my case it was a matter of talking to the different doctors on my team and trying to get them all on the same page of what I wanted and what they were trying to do. Praying for you and your dr to figure out what works best for you. Much love and Hugs to you.

That's hard well depression is hard enough and the meds make you want to eat. I've got popsicles and carrot sticks. Food can be comforting but take yourself for a walk and keep communicating with your doctor's
