Day 4 of a planned 5 day ‘no solid food’ fast
Blood sugar 82 mg/dL

🧘🏾‍♂️ Today I have to sacrifice any potential weight loss (and have perhaps a weight gain) to ensure I can make it through my 🏋🏾 weight lifting tonight, I am trying to maintain my 200 lbs Squat, Deadlift, and Shrugs. I only recently moved up to this level and had a really hard time getting through my sets on Tuesday.

Today I am allowing myself to ‘carb up’ a bit to help my lifting. I need to stick to ‘no solid food’, because otherwise I will go on an out-of-control ‘carb binge’, so I decided to have a 🥛 milkshake.

📈 For the past 3 days I have averaged 15 carbs a day. Today I plan to jump up to 90 carbs!

Others have suggested that I not worry about any potential weight gain since I am lifting. After all, to build ‘bulk’ requires weight gain. However, ‘mentally’ it is hard:

🌟 If you have been obese all your life, like I have, you have to mentally wrap your heard around the situation and deal with it.
🌟 If you lose the weight, you have to mentally wrap your head around maintaining that weight loss
🌟 If you ‘feel’ that you are regaining the weight, you-will-hit-the-brakes and dig your heels in! 😊

Logic and common sense be dammed, my ‘head’ wont allow me to ‘let go’ when it comes to becoming ‘obese’ again. Perhaps this will change in the future, but, for now this is the way it is. I have a ‘mental limit’ of 175 lbs. As long as I am under that, I can accept any gains, but if I cross that level, I will-pump-the-brakes 😊

😎 Life is Good! Have a great day everyone!

yes life is good and you are doing great, I am glad you are loosening up the reins enough to fuel your work out, liquid works just as well as anything else! fingers crossed the milkshake does the trick and does not set you off.

@baskington - Thanks! I DO realize that --logically-- 'drinking my calories' vs. 'eating my calories' is basically the same, but, for whatever reason, 'drinking my calories' does not set me off :) But, if I have some French fries instead of a shake, I will end up going back for more food!

You are doing awesome..... I'm trying not to let this journey in weight loss consume my life ! Good luck in your journey to being healthy and happy !

@baskington - Also, I have been able to lift weights while 'fasted' for weeks. It is only because I jumped from 160lbs to 180lbs, then 200lbs in 30 days that I find I need 'something extra' to get me through my sets. After a week or so I hope to go back to lifting on <20 carbs a day. I see other people on this site who average 200-300 carbs a day. Yeah lifting is no problem for them! But, every time I go above 200 carbs I gain 1-2lbs a day!

@Sweetlysad - Thanks! Except for my 175lbs 'mental barrier' I have been satisfied with my weight loss and lately have concentrated on lifting weights. Lifting weights is VERY satisfying for me because I am 'working *UP* to something' and there is "no limit".

I definitely feel these changes are just as much in our heads as our bodies! You gotta keep working on both!

I was at 260, but due to loss of grip strength I had to back down to 225, and still having a hard time holding that. The lifts aren't too hard, the grip is, and since I don't want to lose a bicep I quite using the reverse grip. Remember, it ain't how much you do that makes a difference it's how well you do it. Slower and lighter weights can produce bigger results. Not advice, just a comment. You know what you are doing.

M. I think a milkshake from In-N-Out is in your future. When we were out there, we passed by In-N-Out on our way to Arcadia from Pasadena at 11:30pm or later. The line was insane! Good luck on the lifting today. 👍

You’re doing great! Hope the carbs help you have an excellent workout! I myself have a mental block. I was on the line of overweight/obese but I hated the way I looked. I won’t go back to that willingly. My number is 130, right where I am now. If I can get under that, with a cushion of 5-10# then I would be much more comfortable. Once the fat is gone I really don’t care what the scale says. It could be 180 and 20% BF with tons of muscle and I’d be happy. Just don’t want a lot of fat. You are so good with the fasts. I don’t have anywhere near your willpower lol. Plus I can eat all kinds of calories on a liquid or soft food diet 😳.

yep I been watching your numbers go up quickly and your last work out depleted kind of made it clear that at least for this week you need a little something to help. lot of weight there that is for sure! you really are moving quickly

Can't say I blame you for not wanting to gain weight again - I live in fear of just going back to that stupid obese category - I am only just at overweight now - I'm sure it will get easier in time as you come to trust your body not to go too crazy. Laughed at your comment yesterday when you talked about wanting to lose more fat to see your new muscles - I always feel that exact same way when I am working out! Have a great day!!

Great drop! Adefwebserver I am afraid of weight gain too. 🙄😞

@peeperjj - When I was 165lbs I thought the same thing, I need just a 'cushion' of 5-10# :)

@chrisw77 _ I just need more time.. :)

@Becc@ - I had to laugh, as if I have 40 minutes to wait in line :) :) No I will be going to Jack N The Box...

@nikeit - I am also 'overweight' right now (I have to be at 163lbs to be at "BMI") So, yes 'overweight' I am ok with :)
25 Oct 18 by member: adefwebserver
Yup, but 'overweight' looks awesome on YOU and I'm at the 'oh so close to obese' end of 'overweight' ;) I will NEVER get down to where that stupid BMI says I will be normal - at my age I don't even want to be a skinny frail old woman! lol
