One benefit of IF is keeping your insulin level low for longer periods at a time. The longer periods you eat the more your insulin levels keep spiking. Watch the documentaries about fasting. Fasting has great benefits. I know you can’t believe everything. But fasting data has been recorded since the 50s.

Search for "Dr. Fung" and "Snake Diet" on youtube. Both big proponents of fasting. For fasting "light" check out "OMAD" and "intermittent fasting".

tridski is right—keeping your insulin low for a longer amount of time during the day helps with weight loss. IF isn’t calorie restriction...you eat a full days worth of calories in a shorter eating window. It works! I’ve done 16/8-20/4 fasting and it really helps the weight come off. I’ve never done extended fasts—nothing more than 20 hours. Good luck!

Also Dr. Berry has some good get started videos on fasting on YouTube as well.

Momma6224 when you do 20/4 what is your time frame out of curiosity and what do you drink throughout the 20?

@jimmiepop Googled for "Snake diet" here's what the very first link says about it: Is The Snake Diet Safe? Um, no. Definitely not. “I would not recommend it to anyone for even a short-term trial, as it is not based on any clear evidence nor does it have any clinical evidence that is peer-reviewed to support the program,” says Julie Upton, R.D., and co-founder of Appetite for Health. Not only that, it would be “nearly impossible” for anyone to follow for a significant amount of time, she says.

Actually used for cancer and other disorders instead of just losing weight. Search on the Optimal Ketogenic Living facebook page. Tons of info there

Fasting isn't about physical hunger, it's 100% a mind game, as is most of this dieting malarkey, if you've got a handle on the psychological aspect the physical falls into place.

Jason Fung on youtube will explain it all

@Annie Have you tried a 48 hour or longer fast yet? If not, you may want to consider it, as that is what it takes to break those food cravings you indicated you were experiencing shortly into your fast. It would also give you the direct experience necessary to have an informed opinion of fasting. The Snake Diet is nothing more than extended fasting, which has been safely practiced across cultures for millenia. I agree that the guy who promotes it is crude and offensive to many. He is also right about a lot of things and his perspective on fasting is particularly useful to trained athletes. Dr. Jason Fung is considerably more genteel in his presentation and has 5,000 patients in his clinical practice. In substance, there is little difference between Fung and the Snake Diet. I don't know Dr. Julie, but from the quote you posted she presents as just another mainstream naysayer with nothing of value to offer with respect to rapid fat loss.

I do an IF daily. No food from 7pm to 7am. My body actually feels the need for food in the morning.

@jimmiepop agree on your assessment of Cole vs. Dr. Fung. Similar messages just different packaging. Currently on a quest to see how far I can go seeing as 48 is pretty easy.
