ok so one thing I'm noticing a struggle with: what to claim.
I find myself struggling with how to claim meals because I don't do a lot of prepackaged foods
most of what I eat is homemade and not to a specific recipe.
Today at work we had pinto beans with ham chunks in it. when I searched I had tons of options but none really fit. then it was baked ziti. no meat just noodles sauce and cheese. looking at options and most are prepackaged or restaurant meals. how does anyone know what to claim? I just take my best guesses but I don't feel like I'm truly being honest ugh lol. oh and I'm claiming a little more so I'm sure I'm claiming enough but with that I'm always over my calorie allowance

I have a couple of strategies that I use since I usually cook quite a bit. I'll do a web search for calories in "item/recipe" and see if what I am making is similar. I will often take the average of several similar things. I've also used an online recipe nutrition calculator to figure out what to claim. In the past I was a little obsessed about being accurate, this last time around I'm not. I make sure the high calorie items are entered, I do use a food scale at home when I'm building my plate. I don't sweat veggie calories as much.

What site have you found to be best for nutrition calculation? I've tried several and had little luck :)

When I cook at home, I measure. So, I cook 2 ounces of pasta for myself, scoop out half a cup of sauce with the measuring cup and measure out 2 tablespoon of cheese. I also have a food scale for meats and nuts. If you eat the same thing all the time you can create a Favorite Meal and then you only have to log in "pasta dinner" from favorites.

The one I usually use is verywellfit.com (verywellfit in case the link doesn't post).

I cook for 40 ppl lol it's hard to brake down but I think one of the sites listed will be helpful. Measurements of the prepared servings is easy as we use serving utensils to ensure that we are in state compliance on nutrition for each resident. Thank you all for your help and support :)

I just add each element and save them as saved meals if I cook it often

I build them as recipes in my cook book.

If I have like a salad, I put each ingredient and estimate how much of each I used (i..e. 1/2 cucumber, 1 cup lettuce, 2 tablespoons salad dressing). Also, I look on the packages I use to make stuff and if it isn't already listed, I add the item with nutrition information in FatSecret. One last thing, you can look up nutrient information on ingredient by searching the web.

If possible, ask for the recipe.

I make my own recipes also and add them in my cook book, so much easier than using the wrong recipe.
