Debbie Cousins's Journal, 18 August 2020

Well, it's been three weeks and a day of nothing but Keto foods. I've lost 9.5 pounds. That averages over 3 pounds a week. I know I should feel really excited about that; but it just seems like I've already been doing this FOREVER, and like I should be losing faster. This morning, I REALLY want a Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwich for breakfast. Dare I take a day "off" or a MEAL off the plan? If I do, I know there's a change I'll relapse and have to go back to square one (which can take MONTHS to get back to).

Bacon and eggs, bacon and eggs, bacon and eggs - 22 days of bacon and eggs. It's a really good way to start my day, because it is a NO-CARB breakfast. I shouldn't have bought that Skippy Super Chunk Peanut Butter for the guy who lives with us. I should have just bought the creamy, because that holds no allure to me. I thought I was strong enough to resist the peanutty crunchiness. I just put a PBJ with Butter (which is how I eat it) into my Food Diary, and it is 34.8 Net Carbs and 498 calories. Yikes. What if I only ate HALF? 17.4 Net Carbs and 249 Calories. Is it POSSIBLE to still stay within my 30 Net Carb goal afte...no, I'd want a WHOLE sandwich, not just a half of one.

The temptation is strong with this one. And it's a stupid Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich. Now, if it was a piece of Marie Calendar's German Chocolate Pie, I could understand the force driving it directly to my mouth. But it's a stupid PBJ. Ok, maybe if I can make it through breakfast, the desire will leave me. Maybe if I go ahead and eat my bacon and eggs. I honestly don't know which I'll choose. I know everyone on here will "forgive me" if I have a slip up, as long as I get right back on track. I don't want to set any bad examples for anyone on here - make them think, "Well, if DEBBIE can blow it, so can I!" I honestly don't know what I'm going to do when I get up from here to make my breakfast. I'll letcha know later how I did.

Once you start it is hard to stop so try hard to resist or factor it in with more exercise on a increased carb day. It is hard to maintain 30 carbs per day so might want to build in so higher days and allow your self a reward but find a way to pay for it other ways. I am restarting my keto and it is hard going but determined. Maybe have someone else portion it out and put in aside for you so you do noty have to portion it out yourself (I am too tempted to overdo it).

You are doing great. Once you are fat-adapted you can have a cheat meal like PBJ. I personally only do 1 cheat meal per month or none, since I have no self control when it comes to anything sweet, even jelly😒.

Hi Debbie, you are really doing great. When it comes to cravings don't let it beat them beat you up. I use natural peanut butter and SF jam. When I get a craving for something sweet I have a tsp. and a half with a little SF jam on a rice cake or one slice of whole wheat bread. It's enough to satisfy my craving and I don't have any more. Just eat it very slow and savor the taste. I slipped a bit with my granddaughter's pandemic baking and put on 6 lbs in a week and a half. The extended heat wave we are having in Ontario hasn't helped any either. No energy. So back on the wagon again with my goal being 176 lbs. Keep the faith. We'll do it.

That sounds like a post from me. It seems like I have been dieting forever. My scale won’t move. I get on it first thing in the morning and it always says the same thing.

I hit the creamy peanut butter the other day so I feel your pain.

Count your calories and enjoy it all in moderation. You are literally torturing yourself for no reason. If peanut butter means you weren't perfect on your diet- maybe it's time you rethink your WOE.

Have you tried the powdered pnut butter?? Its actually pretty good, and only 50 calories. carbs are about the same as regular pnut butter.

3 pounds a week is awesome and I would find it motivating. But not eating bacon and eggs every day. Well, I would be in the hospital having my gallbladder removed if I ate that much fat. I know KETO works for many. Can you fix it up a bit? Like tuna mixed with avocado on a lettuce leaf? Oh, you can even have mayonnaise, right? Or stir fry chicken with some low carb vegetables. Not sure what those are, celery is great in a stir fry if you let it stay a little bit crunchy. Maybe brussels sprouts, mushrooms. I usually have onions but I think they are higher in carbs. Isn't peanut butter okay on Keto? I know the bread and jelly isn't. But peanut butter on celery? Anyway, good luck - it seems to be working for you.

Congratulations on your losses! I'm with Rose Tampa, Sweet Georgia Peaches, Jheeden and others who mention low carb wraps and breads, and low or no carb jellies or preserves. There are a lot of products out there to help us. Also, I have stopped calling it a cheat day. Now once a week, or sometimes only once for two weeks, I have a TREAT day. Whatever I do, I keep track of all that goes into my stomach, usually most of it planned out and before I eat it.

you're doing great Debbie! And hey, if you had to grade yourself youre at over 95% compliance....thats still an "A" grade in my book!

P.S. If you like ricotta try a quarter cup with some cinnamon and diet sweetener on a day you don't feel like having eggs for breakfast.

Keto....noooo. Not for everyone and once you stop you’re most likely going to have problems. Take a look at Noom. It’s working for me and all foods are ok but the approach to when why and how much is better taught. It’s working for me. 275 down to 258. 4 weeks and doing ok. Good luck. Remember.... if it’s not sustainable long term it’s not going to work.

Peanut butter is perfectly fine. Get the all natural stuff, there's no added sugar. Then just use the jelly and butter sparingly. You'd be surprised how little you need of something to taste it. Don't deprive yourself completely or you'll give up.

I love pb and j. I have switched to half a sandwich, a T of pb and half a banana with a t of Nutella. Bread is 60 calories, pb is 96, banana is 53 and Nutella is 35.

congrats on doing something healthy. I lost 60 lbs in 7 months on strict Keto WOE. there a huge curve to learning Keto. Honestly if it wasn't for YouTube I'd never had a chance. you can search anything you want and just add the word Keto before your food choice and watch 3 or more version to make Anything. Google a Keto calculator. You may or not know what your macros are for your goal weight in the amount of time you want the weight to be gone. stick to your macros. there are allot of Dr's on YouTube that promote Keto for weight loss and reversing type 2 diabetes and more everyday. I also lowered my cholesterol from 230 to 177, for what ever that's worth. there is a debate on whether cholesterol levels mean anything at all. " powered by fat" former ketobruce

What we need is Willy Wonka’s gum that tastes like a full meal and dessert, and we should get to pick the flavors. Then we could satisfy the cravings and not be eating what we’re avoiding. I understand though! My husband makes coffee every morning as he works from home “temporarily,” and I don’t miss it until I smell it. Every. Single. Morning. But it’s part of what I cut out for my elimination diet, so I’ll continue smelling it and practice my self control.

peanut butter or almond butter fat bombs - use mini muffin pan - put small amount of nut butter and cover with melted Lily's dark choc chip no sugar chips - freeze, put in mouth and allow to melt - fat is satiating and you get the taste. Also Polander has no sugar added high fiber jelly - a taste of this helps - then celebrate your success
