Debbie Cousins's Journal, 18 August 2020

Well, it's been three weeks and a day of nothing but Keto foods. I've lost 9.5 pounds. That averages over 3 pounds a week. I know I should feel really excited about that; but it just seems like I've already been doing this FOREVER, and like I should be losing faster. This morning, I REALLY want a Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwich for breakfast. Dare I take a day "off" or a MEAL off the plan? If I do, I know there's a change I'll relapse and have to go back to square one (which can take MONTHS to get back to).

Bacon and eggs, bacon and eggs, bacon and eggs - 22 days of bacon and eggs. It's a really good way to start my day, because it is a NO-CARB breakfast. I shouldn't have bought that Skippy Super Chunk Peanut Butter for the guy who lives with us. I should have just bought the creamy, because that holds no allure to me. I thought I was strong enough to resist the peanutty crunchiness. I just put a PBJ with Butter (which is how I eat it) into my Food Diary, and it is 34.8 Net Carbs and 498 calories. Yikes. What if I only ate HALF? 17.4 Net Carbs and 249 Calories. Is it POSSIBLE to still stay within my 30 Net Carb goal afte...no, I'd want a WHOLE sandwich, not just a half of one.

The temptation is strong with this one. And it's a stupid Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich. Now, if it was a piece of Marie Calendar's German Chocolate Pie, I could understand the force driving it directly to my mouth. But it's a stupid PBJ. Ok, maybe if I can make it through breakfast, the desire will leave me. Maybe if I go ahead and eat my bacon and eggs. I honestly don't know which I'll choose. I know everyone on here will "forgive me" if I have a slip up, as long as I get right back on track. I don't want to set any bad examples for anyone on here - make them think, "Well, if DEBBIE can blow it, so can I!" I honestly don't know what I'm going to do when I get up from here to make my breakfast. I'll letcha know later how I did.

I ate the PBJ. I did NOT have a double serving of Grandma Utz Potato Chips with it (as I would usually have had). The craving was for the sandwich, not for the chips. NOW, the real test begins -- do I let this be a one MEAL violation of my WOE, or a one DAY infringement? I DON'T think it will send me spiraling totally out of control, but there IS that possibility. I'm going to try to think positively and believe that it was just this one meal off track today. Three weeks of dieting perfection is still a good accomplishment. I don't have to start with Day #1 again - now it's just, "I've been doing everything perfectly for 22 days, with only one infraction."

I'm sure you're not alone!! 22 days of eggs and bacon is tough. hopefully you stick to the keto for the rest of the day...

I wonder what would happen if you tried just counting calories for a couple of weeks and allowed yourself a more varied diet. Good luck to you my friend. 💛

you can do this Debbie! Your 22 days sounded crazy difficult! The PBJ sounded like a delicious rest stop on your diet journey XD. Stay strong!

It helps to remember that fitness is a marathon, not a sprint. Three pounds a week is a LOT! When I have low motivation days, my mantra is, "Be stronger than your excuses."

When I was in the losing phase of my diet it helped me to get over the foods I craved by reminding myself that they were poisoning me. I convinced myself they were killing me, and they were also sabotaging the progress I'd made. This helped me steer clear of them. Remember also that you're stronger that crunchy peanut butter, or any other food item. You'll also be able to have treats like that again, in moderation, once you've reached the maintenance phase, so you won't have to always resist them. The losing phase is temporary. Good luck to you! 🍀

Debbie, I am so impressed by your losing three pounds a week!!! What dedication and success! Is it the bread or the peanut butter you are craving? You could skip the bread and have a spoonful of the peanut butter and cut those carbs somewhat. Just plan it in your day.

I hop you stay the course my friend - it is the sugar you crave as all carbs ultimately turn to sugar - break the cycle and you will be fine

One day at a time.

this had happened to me, too! sometimes you need to jostle your body and give it some carbs. try 1 cheat meal and then jump right back on it. I like Sunday dinner and a small dessert. Monday morning I'm back in the swing of things. seems to help for me.

I love peanut butter and apple butter. Had it on homemade whole grain toast yesterday for a snack. If my memory is correct it might mess with keto.

How about a PB&J low carb wrap. Use a little sugar free jelly, lower carb peanut butter, and a low carb wrap (or low carb bread). Sometimes I find something close to want I want and it works. Other times I wait for a treat day since it didn't work.

Congrats on your weight loss. I hope you are able to reset after the PBJ. I hate when I convince myself to restart tomorrow. You gave me the flax muffin recipe. They are a nice change for breakfast. Occationally with a little peanut butter sounds yummy. Continued success.

I have a spoon of pnut butter just about everyday. we like peter pan crunchy. walden farms jelly 0 carbs 0 calories. Aldi zero carb bread. net carbs for the pnut butter is 3. If you search you can find a way to sub for something else you want. I also pray a lot . Just suggesting.

2 to 3 lbs a week is what you should be losing. that is very good. Do you not like sausage or ham with your eggs. Or some spinach onions cheese and bell pepper. Change up from the bacon everyday.

I often eat peanut butter on my morning bagel. Something I have learned is I don't need to have a lot of something to taste the flavor. I use about 2 tsp. of peanut butter on 1/2 a bagel. I don't use butter if I am having something moist on my bread or bagel. Sometimes, I switch it up & have an egg on the bagel or toast....no need for butter. Eat sandwiches open faced...only the calories for 1 slice of bread. I'm not eating Keto but I'm sure there are substitutes that will work in your WOE.

Eat the Smuckers Natural crunchy peanut butter and smuckers SF strawberry jam in a low carb wrap. It will scratch that itch without throwing you off.
