Mom's appts went well... few tweeks and things are running smoothly (as smooth as possible.) Had to make some decisions about medications, and decided against them. Mom suffers from anxiety and short term memory loss (among other things) - and while the med's could ease her anxiety, they also can mask her depression. Complicated! But I don't think it's the best thing for her. So I am just going to put my trust in the Lord, and accept that He is giving me that little 'check' inside me... to say No, now is not the right time for her to be on this stuff. I don't remember the name - but basically they said it would make her feel very relaxed and sleepy alot. (easier for me? perhaps. But what kind of life is that... much worse for her!)

I am doing fine... down another pound this morning !!!! Continuing to keep hydrated, Induction Foods Only, and today is light weights at the gym!

Oh, yeah - I was talking to my daughter, and I think (and her Dr. thinks) her constant headaches might be from Candida (yeast infection) and they were talking to her about going on Atkins! On top of that... her Dr. was saying it was her opinion ALL Americans should be put on a HEALTHY GOOD QUALITY CARB WOE - moderate intake of 60-120g / day.

I LOVE IT!!!

But then we knew that, huh???? Much Love.

Glad the dr's appt went well for your mother...it is hard to make medical decisions....putting your mother's quality of life ahead of everything else is so loving... glad your back on track this week...you are so amazing...I had no doubt you would turn this around quickly. Interesting that your daughter's dr...is rec. Atkins to her. So many people have such a negative view of this diet...mostly those that have never tried it...but they always seem to get caught up in the high fats....and are just positive that it is not a healthy WOE. Hope your day is filled with laughter. Much Love and hugs.

I think you made the right choices on the med's for mom. That wouldn't be right to have her sleepy all the time. Although, I could use some of those for the client on her really manic days.lol Way to go on another pound gone. Keep us posted on how and what your daughter decides to do. Sounds like a great plan. Hope you have a wonderful day.:):)

Hey Raven & Laurie - My daughter's dr. recommended she eat HEALTHY FATS... basically, she said - time to get educated! As in all things, you will find you can eat some things, and not others. No particular fruit or veggie is going to hurt you... but some will make your symptoms more acute. BUT what you cook them in - or add to them - or all of the other 'food' choices available to you (whether processed foods or restaurant) are generally CRAP! (I had to laugh out loud!) She told my daughter... if you like meat ... live like a vegatarian, but eat meat too! If not, then live like a vegatarian, but skip the meat and eat more fish! (she doesn't like most fish...and made a face.) Ok then, eat like a vegatarian, eat the meats you do like, watch your unhealthy fats - and learn about the difference of naturally higher carb fruits and veggies and use sparingly. Otherwise, steer clear of all, let me repeat that... ALL processed food! Bagged, boxed, canned, etc, that is more than ONE ingredient! (and definitely steer clear of anything you can't pronounce!) Eliminate refined sugars, eliminate the 'white' stuff ... white potatoe, white rice, white pasta... and go for a sweet pot instead, brown rice, whole wheat pasta, etc... WOW! It was so refreshing to see someone actually in the medical field, with such a great insight to some quality nutritional advice!!! (and her headaches, bloating, and fungal infections should clear up rather quickly!!!) Even better!

Janice, imagine that a doc providing nutritional advice. Most don't unless they happen to live a healthy lifestyle themselves. Fortunately, mine does. I think just the word "Atkins" has a bad connotation for most people who are not truly aware of what it all entails. One of my personal goals is to eat less than 100 grams of carbs/day but I by no means follow Atkins to the letter of the law. My diet for the most part is pretty clean with healthy fats and lean proteins, fruits, veg and complex carbs. Yes, it is all about education as the doc indicated and of course that remains part of my motto on my bio. Have a great day hun!

Good job on another pound gone. I hate when doctors think they need to medicate us to make us groggy. I agree with you on that one..Have a wonderful day Paula....Bren

Nice job on loss! For me, my endo doctor said low healthy carbs. Multi-grain and complex carbs. No white sugar carbs. I think people get hung up on Atkins too. I'm insulin resistent because of my PCOS and my max for carbs is 170...but I'm usually well under that. I'm glad she's found a solution to her headaches.....they're the worst! I hope things work out with your mom. Those are some tough choices to have to make.

My mother was depressed and had severe anxiety. These symptoms would get worse as she experienced more loss in her life. I believe it stemmed back to the time when she was 8 years old and her beloved Daddy died. It is hard to see our loved ones suffer like this and sometimes it is very hard to understand but loving them truly is the best medicine they can receive but it is not always easy being around the depression. May I say, Great job on taking good care of your Mom and Great progress on your weight loss JS! TOWANDA!!!!!!!!!!!

Interestingly enough, this dr seemed very open to starting w/ atkins, cleansing your body, working through the carb ladder and phases, and continuing the education to transition to South Beach, The Zone, or some moderate / healthy carb balance - without going back to the processed junk. (for my daughter in particular, if it is indeed Candida, she will have to stay clear of too many sugars and allow her body to heal.) She is about 15-20 lbs overweight, (by her dr.'s opinion)... Mom's opinion is she is beautiful, and perfect, and lovely, and sexy...just the way she is!!! But my daughter's opinion trumps us all, and she is in pain w/ these daily headaches, the bloating, and some of the other symptoms from this yeast problem...so she's willing to try to resolve this by changing her dietary intake. As for my Mom - thank you all for loving me through this process!!! It's never easy to what loved ones suffer, or mourn, or go through mental changes, or physical ones for that matter... strokes are very different to the people they occur in, and I am so grateful for some blessings - she can still talk, and walk, ...yes she has limited use of one arm, but she can get around enough to go out and get her hair done, or let me take her to lunch...she still has a sense of humor (odd one, but has one :) and ok, she's legally blind, and has no memory...but things could be worse! And I will choose to see the bright side today so I can enjoy the moment. Life is short...and so few moments ... I just want to honor her while I can. Much Love.

You are both so fortunate to still have each other in your lives, even with the quirks, adjustments, and the heartache at times, as well. Treasure the moments. And as far as your WOE, seems like you've found that groove you've been looking for and the tweaks are the right ones for you. Hope your daughter finds some relief and that your DH is doing better, too.
