I'm 56 yrs old and weigh 223 lbs. I have a daughter (25 yrs). I want to lose weight to feel better about myself, but more importantly, for a healthier lifestyle. I'm retired and my husband passed on 3 years ago. Since he has been gone I have gained alot of weight. I'm not as active as I used to be. My daughter lives with me, works full time and is going to the community college and I am very happy that she is with me.
Its time for me to pick myself up and get back out in the world. I want to be able to move around without shortness of breath, aches and pains and low self-esteem. I want to take my "grand-niece" to parks, movies and the zoo.
I have come up with my own diet. It's a mix of many since I have been on many diets. To start with I have eliminated white four, sugars, and fast food. Exercise is going to be a challenge because of my weight. I'll start out slow and easy.
I'm not going to depend on the scale to measure my weightloss because the scale has been my downfall in the past (I will weigh myself but not very often). I'm going to go by the fit of my clothes and a measuring tape.
Its time for me to pull myself together!

I`m desperate. What should I do?
dump him! You deserve better. Lose weight because you want to be healthy, don't do it for him.

What Are/Will Be Your Reward For Weight Loss Goal?
I have a white gold chain with a cross and a heart on it. they look cool together. I would like to have these (small not big) on the inside of my arm about 4 inches up from my wrist, so I can see it. Faith and Love. that's what it would represent. I need to lose 23 lbs to break 200.

What Are/Will Be Your Reward For Weight Loss Goal?
I have always said that if I break 200 lbs I will get a tattoo. At one time I had a list of rewards for each 10 lbs lost. The biggie for me is breaking 200 lbs because I have not been under 200 lbs in a long time. I am going to get that tattoo by the end of August!

Help pls.
Come August it will be 4 years that my husband has been gone. I still miss him very much. When my grieving began I was eating to comfort myself and I began drinking to ease the pain. Needless to say neither was good for me. Now the drinking is occasional, socialble and very seldom. the eating I am gaining control over. During the grieving we suffer emotionally and physically. My doctor told me what I was doing was my attempt at handling the grief and prescribed anti-depressants (which packed on more weight) and sleeping pills. My long winded point is, We all handle grief differently. I'm not taking the medication anymore. I am trying to move forward by making positive lifestyle changes.
I am so very sorry for you loss. You're coming here is positive, in that regard I'm happy for you. Study the different diets and find one that you feel good about. Also, what were you doing when you were thin, i.e. eating habits, activities, exercise, as opposed to what you are doing now. Maybe just going back to those "good" old habits will be enough.
Prayers and hugs...
