Hi!

My name is Alice and I’m 26.

I decided to loose weight once and for all at the beginning of March this year.

I lost a lot of weight about 10 years (10 years!!) ago and since then my weight has been creeping up and down unchecked until I could no longer ignore the lack of 'down' and my rapidly expanding waistline.

Since March I have lost 1.5 st and greatly improved my fitness levels.
However I am currently at something of a self imposed plateau.

I don't have the desperate and compulsive impotus that I had when I started out. I've gotten lazy with my food and exercise diaries and losing weight isn't at the fore front of my mind in the same way it was duribg the 1st 3 months of changes.

I want to redress this - although I don't want to be writing down everything I eat for the rest of my life, I'm not sure I'm ready to leave it behind just yet and I want to regain the strict control that existed before so I can kick start the next phase of my weight loss and fitness goals.

Can a very low-cal diet permanently lower metabolism?!
Hi tinanna, I'm no expert and certainly not a doctor, but I wouldn't have thought that 2 months would be enough to do completely obliterate the metablolism that you had, although it will definitely have changed the level that it currently works at.

I would have thought that if you slowly increase the amount you are eating and keep up the exercise to build back any muscle that you lost (muscle being the furnace that burns the fuel that powers the motabolism). This way you will gain the weight back gradually and will have time to retrain your body to deal with the increased calories. You won't be able to instantly switch from a very restrictive diet, to the plentiful diet you had before without putting strain on your system, and probably gaining weight as a result. As I'm sure you know, this is why most highly calorie restrictive diets ultimately fail, as soon as a dieter is finished on them, they immediately switch back to old eating habits and inevitably gain back all their weight - plus! You are lucky in that you were at a healthy weight before hand which should make it a bit easier for you to control how you gain your weight back.

Don't panic, I'm sure that there will be plenty you can do to get your motabolism working back in top form and here are lot's of far more qualified people than me on here who are more than willing to share their knowledge and we're all here to offer support.

Good luck!

Am I the ONLY person annoyed by Nutri-System commercials???
I've been thinking about this sort of thing a lot recently as I peruse the various fitness, health, diet and nutrition websites over the last few weeks. "Get ripped in 4 weeks" is one of my personal favourites.
It's certainly been getting under my skin. I get so cross, basically anything to do with weight loss is touted as the much fabled 'silver bullet'. Is it any wonder that so many of us start out trying to lose weight, get healthier and fitter, then fizzle out or give up because IT TAKES TIME?! Everywhere you look there are adds like the ones mentioned here telling you that you can lose all the weight, get a fabulous toned body, a killer tan, you can do it all in a fortnight....and best of all, you don't have to change anything...so why bother with the long haul? The long, slow education that is weight loss is what is going to make this a permanent change, but heaven all mighty, who doesn't want to wake up tomorrow and discover your "inner skinny" shed it's "outer fatty" over night?! Smile

Start weight of 200-190 lbs, 50-60lbs to lose
Thanks!

At the moment it's not having a bad day that's the problem, it's getting started at all!
I've got plenty of ideas and intentions, but it all too quickly falls by the wayside. It's so very easy to just keep sitting on your arse and saying "I'll start tomorrow."

I'm hoping that by getting on these forums and buddying up with people I'm really going to kick start myself into action and stick with it because it won't just me I'll be letting down, but all the people offering help and support and doing such a good job themselves.

I'm looking forward to having other people to share my mission with. I don't have kids myself but I do have a boyfriend who doesn't really understand why I want to lose weight (bless him!). I know he'd support me, but I don't think he'd help me (he's not about to give up his beer and take aways and is annoyingly built like a race horse!) and I know he doesn't want an hourly update on all my weight woes or have to talk me out of eating those Krispy Kreme's that my boss has oh-so kindly bought as a treat (bearing in mind there's 4 people in my office, 3 of whom have far greater will power than me, being presented with 12 donuts is just plain mean!).

Looking forward to getting past the theorising and getting into action!
If anyone fancies giving be a boot-camp up the backside, let me know!

Start weight of 200-190 lbs, 50-60lbs to lose
Hi!

I'm 26, female and currently 196lbs. My target weight is 140lbs. I work in an office and I'm stuck behind a desk 8-9 hours a day.
Sound like you?

I'm looking for a weight loss buddy with similar goals and circumstances to me so that we can keep each other motivated and share our experiences, tips, tests and triumphs as we head off down the rocky road to bikiniville! Wink
