My name is Tami, and I was born in 1970. Born and raised in Wisconsin, where the women are grown BIG! I've always been "big-boned", but my height has allowed me to carry the weight well until now. I have 4 kids, the youngest of whom is 12 weeks old. Immediately after her birth, I was back to my base weight (182 lbs, not good, but normal) and now I've gained 8 lbs even though I'm not eating extra, I'm breastfeeding, and I babysit for 3 kids besides my own. I'm frustrated and feeling disgusting - it's time to get back to my goal weight(155-160), and I'm hoping this new community will help me.

GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE!

polycystic ovarian syndrom
Hi Christina! I have PCOS, and I'm 37. Like you, I had one child with no problems way before I was diagnosed, and later developed symptoms that tipped us off that something was wrong. I had a very irregular cycle, and thought that I couldn't get pregnant at all until I had a very painful cyst that led to me getting my first internal ultrasound. I was shocked to discover that I had been pregnant, but was in the middle of an early miscarriage. Pretty much blew my husband and I away! We had planned to adopt, and had not been using birth control since we believed it wasn't an issue. Long story short, my problem wasn't conceiving a child, it was carrying to term. I had had what I now believe to be three or more miscariages that I wrote off as nasty, painful late periods before I even realized what was going on. Once I knew there was a pattern, I started looking for a cause, and through some research, came up with PCOS. You're actually fortunate that you got your diagnosis at a workable age, as this remains an often misdiagnosed problem. I had to kind of bully my doc into doing some tests on me, but she was very nice about acknowledging that she was wrong when they came back! The upside - I was very lucky. I now have 3 more healthy, beautiful kids (4.75, 2.75 and 10 months). A lot of the reading I've done suggests that if you can get to a manageable weight and maintain a pregnancy (as in my case), you'll be able to do it again. I remember reading, too, that PCOS, once reversed, can actually make you more fertile, because once those eggs start moving the right way, they REALLY move. That seems to be our situation! I did have more misses in between, and our youngest little girl was supposed to be a twin, but we lost the other baby.

All this is a very long-winded way to say... keep on doing what you're doing. The Low GI diet seems to be great for us (although I am happily maintaining on South Beach). I wish I'd known about them sooner. Every situation is different, but my story has a happy ending, and yours can, too. If I can help or just lend an ear, let me know.

Sausage??
I'm on South Beach, and I don't know all the rules for Fat Flush, but I've lost nearly 30 lbs, and have eaten sausage all along. I get my store's made-in-store bulk, which comes in several varieties. I just drain very carefully and even blot the finished product to remove the most fat. I always kind of felt like it was cheating, but that just made it taste better, and it never impacted my loss. Good luck!

Interesting Site
I don't know about the rest of you, but I came into this dieting thing blind - pretty much everything I know came from this site or other internet searches. This link will take you to a breakdown of exactly what your body needs to maintain, gain or lose weight, as well as what nutrients are most important. Hope you enjoy playing with it as I have!

How do you know which carbs are OK to add back?
I'm in a Phase 1.5 - I eat approved carbs about 3 or 4 days a week. I try to keep it at one "dose" per day, but I'm curious about how everyone determines what's Ok to bring back. My current theory about any kind of bread/grain/pasta is (and it's kinda dumb) when I read the nutrition info on a product, I compare the percentage of carbs daily value and if the fiber percentage is higher, I feel all right about it.

Please tell me what your system is... I'm in a big stall and maybe I should be back in hard-core Phase 1.
