Nearly 44 years old and have been dieting since I was a teenager. On and off, of course. In 2007 I had a gastric band - I was not successful with it. In retrospect, I should have known it wouldn't work. My issues with food are not just physical. And really, the band is just a "tool". You still have to diet and exercise.
I've had the most dieting success with Atkins. I lost 50 lbs the first time I did it. I've tried on and off over the years and have not been able to stick with it. Usually because I want to try another diet so I can have carbs. But I like Atkins. I don't have to measure my portions. I just eat, for the most part. So, beginning today, I'm back on Atkins. Hopefully for the long haul.
