I was also going to measure my waist this morning until I realised my tape measure has fanished in thin air (only thin thin in my house) But I'm sure I have one lying around somewhere... activity for this eveningsure I'll burn a few cals that way.
I would also follow the advise of Jenfar - keeping it with me and keeping a book to record meals.
