My name is Beth and I am 30 year old living in Spokane, WA. I am currently a legal assistant in a real estate law firm but am also back in school for a career change (library technician, hopefully on to a masters program).

My goal is to lose weight and get into a lifestyle/pattern before school starts up again for fall quarter (September 20th). I have had spurts of exercise and diet in the past, but after stepping on a scale this last Monday, I am more determined than ever. I look forward to what this website and the Android app can help me achieve!

BREAKFAST CHANGE
I have been making sure to eat a thing of instant oatmeal every day when I get to work for the last few weeks. Not sure this change was the MAIN reason for my minor weight loss, but I have lost weight for the first time in YEARS, so something must be working. Smile

Starvation mode?
Matt, I have unfortunately missed a three days since I began dieting and exercising again on August 10th.

Please ignore all information before that date as I had deleted the application on my phone in January and when I re-downloaded it MONTHS later, it had kept all my information. This last Monday that I missed was definitely under 1000 calories as I was intensely busy that day and ate about two meals...maybe (hence why I didn't record my information. The other two days there is no excuse for, but from this point on, everything will be recorded religiously.

Starvation mode?
Thanks for the quick reply Russell!

Do you think a trial week of eating above 1200 calories (since I rarely eat above 1000) is a good idea? Same workout routine, just more calories. Maybe that will help me find out if it is starvation mode that is keeping me from losing weight?

I wish I could say I was in a "plateau", but I have barely lost any weight to start calling it that! Smile

Starvation mode?
I am beginning to think that I am not losing weight due to being in starvation mode, but I am so confused! I saw a few other posts here on the forums regarding it, but I am still as confused as ever.

I work out on an elliptical at least 4 days a week and try to stick to the three larger (but not huge) meals a day and snacks in between diet. But I rarely get above 1200 calories because I am trying to eat so much healthier. When I do get above 1200 calories, I weigh myself the next morning and I have usually gained up to a pound. I am wondering if this is because I am not eating regularly, such as eating just over 1200 calories EVERY day? Calorie calculators that I have used have told me to eat up to 1600, but I am worried to go up that high due to my weight gain in the last year.

I have read all kinds of websites about starvation mode but am wondering if anyone has had any personal experience with this or any advice? I am thinking of trying to make sure I eat above 1200 calories a day for a few weeks, but, again, am scared of more weight gain.

quirky question
French dip. The place that delivered it to my work was nice enough to weight the meat and bread so I could enter it all accurately!
