Devoted wife to Jason of 30+ years, proud mom of 3 perfect children: Matthew 29, Jonathan, 24, Jennifer 22 and absolutely fanatical grandmother of the most beautiful, gifted and intelligent grandchild in the world: Rory (21 months).

I'm determined to get my health in better shape. Unfortunately I have several health-related issues: high blood pressure, thyroid disease and now pre-diabetic. I'm looking at 2008 to be my turn around year. I'm an extremely busy professional and eat whatever is convenient and don't exercise. So this is really going to be a challenge - but I'm up for it because I don't want to live with the alternative.

I've been overweight all of my life. I weighed 35 lbs. at 11 months old. The only time I had any sustainable weight loss was in my early 20's when I drank nothing but coffee and liquor, took diet pills, smoked like a crazy person and danced all night. Those days are gone and now in my mid-50s I weigh more than I ever had. God I hate post menopause.

I love this website - exactly what I have been searching for and can't wait to chat with you all.

Need a Diet Buddy
Good morning Kar

I'll be your diet bud! I'm on South Beach but I can throw encouragement your way regardless of the diet you're on. My only advice to you after having spent years on many diets is small portions, eat often, drink a lot of water, get some exercise daily (walking is great) and watch your carbs and fats.

South Beach works great for me because I need the discipline. Other diets for me leave too much flexibility. But whatever diet you are on if it's nutritionally sounds and works than that's great.

The other tip is plan ahead and have things ready. I'm getting ready to go to New York on biz next week and am already planning what / where I can eat and how I'm going to get me exericse in.

Day 2 and I just couldn't help but weigh in although I know you're not suppose to. Lost 4-1/2 pounds - yippie. That's enough motivation to keep me going.

Mid-day - so far so go. On plan and I actually walked 1 mile on my lunch break. Considering I get zip exercise that was a huge step for me.
