Exercising by itself isn't enough. Your diet is key. You could lose weight by changing your eating lifestyle without stepping into the gym if you wanted. The key is to have a caloric deficit. Take in less calories than you expel in your day to day life. Exercise allows you to eat a little more than you would if didn't workout.

As for the rowing machine: I don't think there is a better piece of equipment for a full body workout. You should make your gym time fun by challenging yourself. See if you can do the rowing machine 3 times a week for a month or so. Then slowly increase your times. Don't look at the gym as a chore you have to do to lose weight. Look at it as you bettering youself both menally and physically even if you don't shed a pound you will be leaps and bounds healthier if you didn't workout at all.

One more thing. Don't get burnt out on using one piece of equipment or doing the same workout over and over. Mix it up. Get together with some friends a couple times a month and ride bikes or something. Keep it fresh.

Good luck!

My RDI seems high
Hi there. I'm 29 going on 30, 248 lbs. and 5'11". I lift weights almost everyday and the rest of my time is fairly sedentary as I'm in a patrol vehicle most of my work day. For moderate weight loss it has my RDI as 2900 calories! That seems awful high. I have been able to lose about 10 lbs so far with an intake of about 1800-2000 calories per day, but have plateaued over the last month. I spread out my ~2000 calories over several snacks plus a main breakfast lunch and dinner.

Should I just trust the RDI they've given me and maybe shoot for 2500 calories? Or is there something else I could try. I'm satisfied with my diet as of now, but am getting discouraged.

Troublesome search
Have you tried scanning the barcode? Also, now that you've found it, it will be in your recent foods list.
