About 7 1/2 years ago I saw a photo of me and freaked out. I didn't realize how much weight I was packing on until it was right in front of my eyes on paper. From that very moment I decided to make a change. I started the South Beach Diet and lost 30 lbs in 3 months (185 to 155). I have been doing the SBD on and off ever since and am now down to 146 and have been toggling between 135 and 146 ever since. I have tried almost every diet, from hCG and cleanses to eating clean to 6 week body makeover. I have also tried every kind of workout regime there is. The last 20 lbs have been the hardest and I have been struggling with those last lbs for the past 7 years. I'm hoping to get the last bit of weight off before my husband and I start having children. I am determined!!

First day on SBD - Are you counting calories as well as carbs?
Hi KTANNE. Congrats on your up coming wedding! Very exciting Smile The SBD is a great way to lose weight and keep it off. I have been on and off the SBD for 7 years now and have lost a total of 45 lbs and have kept it off. It is a realistic way to eat and is also easy to make it a lifestyle. To answer your question, it isn't necessary to count calories and/or carbs on phase 1 of the SBD. Once you start eating grains and fruit, you may want to count calories and keep an eye on how many grains and fruits you are eating daily. One tip...make sure to exercise! Even if its only 20 minutes on the elliptical...get your body moving. I noticed that weight loss is almost twice as fast with exercise. Good luck!!
