Awesome! I had really expected it to take at least two if not three weeks to lose the weight I gained while down in Atlanta. It is great to know I lost it all plus some.

I guess I was right about the majority of it being water weight. My calorie counts were a bit lower than usual but only because I wasn't very hungry some days. They certainly were not low enough to account for over 8 lbs.

Goes to show that you can't get discouraged with a 0-lb loss or even a weight gain. In the past I would have thought, "If in one trip I can undo 3-4 weeks of trying to lose weight what's the point?"

With today's weigh-in, I have lost exactly 41 lbs. That puts me at 323 pounds. And that means I am now under the lowest weight I have ever been while living in this house (just a couple months shy of eight years.)

So, as of today, I am at my lowest weight I've been for at least a decade. It is very likely my lowest weight since before I was 30.

Last week was a good week, even if my scale didn't think so.

I mentioned the victories on the plane trip already. (Ability to fold down the tray all the way and not needing a seat belt extender this time.)

I also spent quite a bit of time outdoors. After classes each day I set off around the city hunting down geocaches. I found 13 of them and tried to find another four that eluded me. I also got a couple dozen nice photos.

While doing this I saw several parts of the city that most people who live there likely haven't even seen. I also walked almost 10 miles during the week. For me that is a lot. I don't think I could have done that three months ago... not without being really sore or having knee pain for sure.

It's a hilly area and I was hauling over 325 pounds up and down those hills. According to the app on my cell phone, all that walking burned nearly 10,000 calories.

I didn't turn on the TV in my room even once.

For most of my breakfasts and a few other meals I managed to keep what I ate pretty well within my diet plan. For some other meals I kept portion sizes down even though what I was eating was a bit over the top.

But I also indulged a bit. I had a full "southern meal" with the sides. I had a delicious stuffed shrimp dinner. I drank a few beers a bloody mary and a margarita during the trip.

I gained 7 pounds but I don't care all that much. Of course I know it is going in the wrong direction. But it was still a very good week. I'm confident that much of that weight is water weight. I don't know if I'll lose it all this week but I'm confident that the boost to my metabolism and returning to a proper diet will let me shed them by the end of the month.

More importantly I feel good about the week. The positives far outweigh the negative as far as I'm concerned. It hasn't shaken my confidence that I'll be successful this time with my weight loss. If anything, after the successes of the week I feel even more confident.

Sometimes the scale doesn't tell the whole story.

It is a lot easier to exercise when you are "playing" instead of "exercising." Duration and intensity are easier to maintain when you are doing something fun instead of something that feels tedious.

I'm in Atlanta, GA (800 miles from home) this week. Working out in a hotel gym just isn't something I've been able to get into. Not sure why exactly, but it is much less appealing to me than even going to a regular gym (which is less appealing to me than working out at home.)

When packing to fly down I packed a bunch of geocaching stuff in my backpack. I've been taking the backpack with to class and each day I have been walking at part way back to the hotel, or caching the shuttle to the hotel then heading out geocaching from there. I have been seeing parts of Atlanta very few tourists (or even most residents) ever see.

Tonight after class was the maiden voyage for an app I just downloaded last night. It tracks route, speed, duration and altitude changes. It also calculates calories burned based on all that data and your height/weight.

According to the app, I spent 2-1/2 hours searching for caches. I ended up walking 4-1/3 miles and I burned 4,477 calories. (I found 3 out of 5 of the caches I looked for too by the way.)

I have never gone that many miles on a treadmill or elliptical in my life. And I've never burned that many calories on any kind of exercise equipment. Sure my feet and legs are tired tonight, but it was far "easier" than "working out."

Two triumphs yesterday!

On the 10th, I flew from Wisconsin to Atlanta. I found that a couple of things changed since last spring.

1) NO seat belt extender. I was able to buckle the belt on both planes and had 4-5" to spare. Last time I needed the add-on extender for one flight and JUST got the belt on the other flight to buckle. BTW, larger plane does not mean larger belt.

2) Tray folded all the way out. Last spring I couldn't fold the tray all the way down. This time, on the 2nd flight I was able to. There was only a fraction of an inch between my belly and the tray, but I didn't have to hold my water in my hand this time.

Both made me feel pretty good about the changes I've made in the past couple of months. Yeah, some of it is work, and some of it is a royal PITA, but fitting into the "regular sized" world a little better is nice.
