Big surprise for me yesterday. The worst store I've gone into as far as temptation goes is Menards (a mid-west hardware/home store.) My favorite snacks and treats were all over. In displays in the middle of isles, at the checkout, etc.
Maybe it was the fact that it was mostly my favorite "guy" snacks. Or maybe it was just that I wasn't prepared for it like I would have been during a trip to the grocery store. Or maybe it was the fact that you couldn't just avoid the "candy isle".
I didn't buy anything but the stuff I went for, but it sure was tempting.

My body made up for last week's lack of weight loss I guess. I've been feeling a lot better with the lower calorie goals. Honestly, it was just too much food before and I found myself feeling way too stuffed too often.
The hard part is still the time it takes to prepare foods for meals. We've done a little prep ahead of time (cooking up a bunch of chicken breasts and cutting into strips) and that really helped but we need to get in the habit of doing more. It takes long enough to get meals ready when you already have most things cut up and ready to use. It's just impractical when you have to do the cutting AND making the meals every day.

Cutting calorie goals. Between doing some research, doing some math and having lost weight, I adjusted my daily calorie limits down a bit. Also I've been feeling just too full lately. It is surprising how much health foods you have to eat in order to reach 2500 calories!
Obviously I'll have to do it again every now and then as my weight drops. I'll base it on online calorie calculators, weight loss progress, and how I'm feeling.
Despite what you might think, this change doesn't have much to do with the fact that I hadn't lost any weight between Saturday a week ago and this Saturday. After a turkey dinner (with most of the trimmings) on Saturday and "dubious" meal choices yesterday I decided to check what the damage was... I'm down a couple of pounds since Saturday morning.
The new calorie goals are:
1900 Monday
2300 Tuesday
1900 Wednesday
2300 Thursday
1900 Friday
1300 Saturday
3300 Sunday
That is an average of 2271 calories/day.

Disappointing results this weigh in. 0.4 lbs. I'm going to chalk it up to either water retention (sodium was crazy-high yesterday at over 6000 mg) or muscle growth or both. I was just as good on calories and exercise as the prior week. In fact, I was a bit better.
So I'm looking forward to a big loss next week.

I think my sense of taste is starting to adjust to the healthier food 6 days a week. The McDonalds breakfast burritos weren't all that great/satisfying and I doubt I'll have them again.
I noticed for the first time how the plain burrito shell was very doughy/flavorless. In fact the taste overall paled significantly compared to the burritos we made last week ourselves with La Banderita soft taco shells and our own farm-fresh eggs.
