I am a 61 year old woman with the hope of reducing my weight for my health and to meet my fitness goals of increasing muscle and losing body fat. Up until I was about 45 years old, I exercised regularly and watched all my food choices. In fact, when I was 40 years old, I was in the best condition. This was an accomplishment since I had been an overweight kid, and battled weight off and on for most of my adult life.

Then, menopause hit and I started a more sedentary job...and I also have hypothyroid! I just slowed down and didn't seem to care anymore about my health.

I have done organized programs at the gym, and food programs. I tend to do well for a while until I hit the dreaded plateau...and then I am discouraged and give up. I WILL NOT give up this time.

Do you find it hard to sleep on fasting days?
I find if I front load my fat to the morning hours when I intermittently fast and save most of the carbs for evening, I do sleep better. Also try 2 or 3 magnesium tablets at bedtime - they release the muscle cramps and improve sleep quality.

Disapointed with myself
Many people believe in exercising enough to offset the calories we eat. It works for most people but some people need a different quality in their calories. Your typical foods as you list them seem to lack nutrition. Add proteins and some fat is healthy. White toast, packaged cereals and soups and processed and full of sugar and sodium. Why not try a lower carb and higher protein plan for two weeks and see if you lose weight? It could work for you. And, remember, never give up! We all have been where you are today.
