mardee57's Journal, 31 January 2014

So today I have a few thoughts on diet. I read some excerpts from the Hacker's Diet (http://www.fourmilab.ch/hackdiet/) and it brought back to my memory a lot of useful information. It made me realize that with the hundreds of diets out there, that, there are both good and bad, useful and harmful things to take away from all the studies, research, thoughts and ideas on the topic.
I finally decided that people have to do what works for them. You can't really set out to change people's mind on what they eat, how much they eat, when they eat, where, and why they eat.
This is a serious journey and for those of us that have had a battle on our hands we have uncovered over time what has worked and what has not worked for us. So for me eating a 1000 calorie a day diet and loosing 2 pounds a week is what works. I don't want to take months and months to loose the weight I need to loose.
I can pack in the necessary grams of protein, carbs, and fat to appease the RDI requirements based on 1000 calories.
The other thing I discovered yesterday while doing my research on the topic of weight loss was a nifty calculator that calculates the daily amount of calories you need (http://www.thinandhealthyforever.com/index.html) between that and reading numerous articles where Doctor's and Nutritionist state that average weight loss is between 1-2 pounds per week it made me realize that in order to lose that amount was based on calorie intake.
So all in all I feel satisfied with my successful day of research and discovery and am enthusiastic for what is coming.

Yes, thank you for sharing. I, too, figured out that since I'm not expending a lot, I also get by on 1000/day in order to lose exactly what you set out to do. Hang in there. It works. I'm right there with you! You are so right that a person needs to do what works for them. People willsa y to me, "How are you doing it?" And I have to tell them a) counting calories b) a great website called fatsecret.com where people are awesome and supportive c) really wanting it badly d) regular doctor visits...and the list goes on.

I agree. There are so many diets. I found the zone worked awesome for me for a long time and I enjoyed it because he uses a system of portions other than calories. Now that I'm far lower in body fat, I simply had to start counting the calories. There was no way around it. We are fortunate that we live in a time of science where all kinds of info is available to us. Unfortunately, we also live in a time when there are so may 'scientific experts' that we can find the one that agrees with us. Better to read as much as we can, try it all, and make our own decision.

I am so glad that we are all in this together... There are days when I think maybe, just maybe, I am not on the right track... Then I think about my nutrient rich diet and think how could I not be. I feel great, I'm loosing weight at a good rate, and I'm eating healthy unprocessed food... So I've learned that I have indeed found what works for me and like all of you I can share that with people but in the end it is up to them to do what is best for them and what works for them. Stay warm!!
