Absynthia's Journal, 29 September 2017

It's been a tough 2 weeks. I've had a lot of serious personal issues and went through a really rough patch, but things are starting to look up a bit.

Somehow, I did better on my eating than usual. Putting the ole Psychology degree to work -- I realize it may have been because it was the one thing in my life that I had control over. Unfortunately, I don't see that reflected more than usual on the scale. People are starting to notice my weight loss though -- I've lost a few inches around the waist and a little from my face/neck, so it is becoming noticeable.

I decided this week to start trying to exercise at least 2-3 times a week. I know this sounds like nothing, but it is MAJOR. I have always hated it and would rather just starve. I will admit that I have never even been to a gym and the most athletic thing I've done in years is walk or go swimming. But my metabolism is so slow and it seems like it is so much harder to lose now that I'm getting older -- maybe this will help. I'm sort of excited, because it is something Just For Me. I bought a set of cute workout clothes, even. I really have no excuse not to -- my apartment complex have a newly renovated gym that is literally the next building over from mine, and it is open 24 hours a day. I can't believe I'm looking forward to starting!

I was just looking back at my journal and saw that a month ago, I thought I was at an all-time low in my life. If I had known the events that would happen in the past 2 weeks, I think I would have just given up. I'm so happy that I started making some small changes in my life. It has really helped me and I think in a way, it prepared me for what was to come. Now that it has happened and I'm through the initial shock, I feel like I am strong enough to overcome it. It is so strange how life works out that way sometimes.

If everyone exercised twice a week, we'd have world peace. Thank you for sharing so transparently; believe it or not, it's inspiring.

When it comes to exercise, I feel just like you. I go bowling 2x a week and golf on Tuesdays. That is my idea of good exercise. I know I don't walk enough and it is hard to make myself do it.

"Exercise" is any activity you choose to participate in. I personally believe in a variety of "exercise" and none of it (for me) occurs in a gym. I lived in a very rural area for many years, so a gym was not available. "Exercise" for me (outside of two small children, livestock to feed and care for, shoveling poo, milking cows, etc) was hiking in the mountains, making little challenge activities out of hay bales and other items available, running on deer trails - but I also took part in Yoga and Jane Fonda's challenge workout with a good friend. You will not exercise unless you enjoy it, so try all kinds of things in and out of a gym!

Ive done walking, gym, weights and bicycle riding. And, there is one that is the best. And, that is the one you are motivated to do. Sometimes I like to walk and other tyimes I hate it. but, if I do any of them it is a WIN!!
