Cleta's Journal, 12 August 2017

That is it. I am quitting. I have tried for over 5 years and have just played with the same 5 pounds. I cannot even starve them off because my glucose levels bottom out.

I have had this headache for almost a year and there isn't any reason for it either. Doctor has run every test, even a ct scan and nothing shows up.

I am so fed up. 5 YEARS and no matter what I try the same old ?#^*. I may or may not be back.

Cleta, have you tried upping your sodium? That's something I've been doing to help with headaches.

Sodium helps me for headaches caused by lack. Mold caused a different kind for me. But the persistent unexplained ones only responded to injections specialists weren't familiar with, but a dentist was.

White Bread, Reser's Homestyle Cole Slaw, Reser's Macaroni Salad, Corn On The Cob with Butter, Potato Chips - seriously? You eat nothing worthy, no one would loose weight with this kind of food. Calories are not the only important thing, the QUALITY of your food counts the same! Reduce sugar, skip white bread, eat fibers, vegetables (fruits), dairy products, less meat, good oils. Stay away from junk- and fastfood, prepare your own fresh food. In the supermarket, read the descriptions carefully: is there something useful in it? "Light" might be less fat but containing more sugar. Last not least, write in every bit you eat! Don´t forget to drink water, tea or something without sugar added. And keep on moving! I am 53 and lost 50 kg in a few years, beeing patient and suffer setbacks. Don´t throw yourself away and please, don´t give up...but think about a real change in your lifestyle... :)

Don't quit eat healthy. If you are recording all you eat you aren't eating enough nutrients to sustain your life. 300-500 calories a day isn't enough for anyone. No wonder you have a constant headache. Try eating whole foods-- whole grains, vegetables, fruits etc. If you are eating so little with nutrients it's no wonder your blood sugar spikes easily. Your calories should at least average 1200 per day. Your body is starving and holding onto every calorie it can to try to keep you alive. Magnesium helps my formerly chronic migraines also doe eating healthy whole foods.

Did your doctor also check your thyroid? Hypothyroidism can make you gain weight, make you tired and weak, headachy, constipated, brittle nails. It's even made my gait unsteady. If it's just your blood sugar, I would suggest eating every 2-3 hours with smaller meals and snacks. That should help. Let me know how it goes.

All you're doing by that is spreading out your calories throughout your day, not eating any more. All it takes is a little planning.

Oh, Cleta, don't give up on yourself! There *is* a solution. Controlling your pain and weight is largely a matter of DECIDING and PLANNING what to put in your mouth. Choose "poison" and you'll feel miserable. Choose real food, and you'll feel better. Using the food database on FS, record everything you eat. You'll see what you need to add (like protein) and what you need to subtract (like sugar, including the sugar in dairy products). Create a firm eating plan, drink lots of water, and eliminate foods that "hate" you. It DOES work. [TO BE CONTINUED]

Inflammation causes all kinds of pain in the body, sugar in its many forms is PUBLIC ENEMY NO.1. So, try two simple experiments. For two weeks, religiously eliminate DAIRY PRODUCTS and see how you feel. (Most milk is full of lactose, even skim milk!) If you begin to feel better, significantly limit or eliminate dairy products and get protein from non-dairy sources. [TO BE CONTINUED]

Then, for the next two weeks, eliminate SIMPLE SUGARS -- the obvious (table sugar, honey, agave syrup, maple syrup, etc.) plus baked goods, "low fat" versions of *anything*, *any* natural or artificial sweetener that contains "-ose" among the ingredients (maltose, sucrose, desxtrose, lactose, etc.) and see how you feel. If you feel better, limit or eliminate sugars from your diet.

BTW, "low fat" is a LIE! It's marketing, pure and simple! Years ago, I compared Nutrition Facts on a bag of regular Fig Newtons and those on a bag of "fat-free" (or "low-fat" or "reduced fat" -- whatever) Fig Newtons." The lower-fat version had MORE calories because it had MORE sugar -- more carbohydrate -- than the regular version! I was really PO'd and stopped buying "low-fat" anything!

Cleta, my T2DM was uncontrolled for 16+ years. My blood sugars are now NORMAL. I limit my carb consumption to an average of 80 or so daily. I still take minimal doses of Humalog and Levemir, which has reduced the weight-related side effects of insulin. I've eliminated metformin -- which has lots of side effects -- by taking 1000mg of BERBERINE daily. The scientific research on BERBERINE, a natural supplement, shows that it reduces blood sugar (and cholesterol, and has many other health benefits) with virtually no side effects or drug interactions. Ask your doctor about berberine.

You could fix two problems at the same time by restricting sugar and carbohydrates. Plenty of good information freely available if that sounds like something you're interested in. Start with dietdoctor dot com.

hi Cleta. my 2 cents. sometimes it seems all too much. when your health issues directly relate to diet and food it must be frustrating. I would suggest picking a commitment to a steady intake of nutritious food. this cannot but help the other issue. I don't do Keto but have experienced positive change when I started eating quality carbs and greatly upped my protein using leaner meats, dairy and protein supplements. Balancing daily intake to 40-30-30.carbs-protein-fats, with some flexibility. and daily calorie limits. Once I realized how much more I could eat with the right kind of foods it took almost no effort. slip ups happen but I don't crucify myself for it. I only have to notice how much more energy I have with daytime sleepiness nearly gone. Maybe a dietician could help you put together a meal plan. and I've already found and tried several recipes found in this app. calorie limits. nutritious food-- which can include limited - 'treats'. please don't stop trying and take a breather and decide what your priorities and motivations are. Do whatever you must to maintain the best health you can. We don't have to be slaves to every food urge that comes along and yes sometimes our best efforts will fall short. its part of the process. wishing you all the best.

Hang in there. I hate to hear you sound so disheartened. If you have at it that long with no changes, perhaps you need to try something new and different. I wish you all the best!

Hi Cleta - try and find Windlepoones journal that he wrote today. If you aren't following him you may have to look under "show activity from" and chose "everyone". I think what he wrote could be life changing for you.
