KitchenYum's Journal, 08 July 2017

Hello, everyone. I am so glad I found you! I am here to take a bite out of my Type 2 Diabetes. I was diagnosed a week ago and have since been trying to figure out what to do. The one common denominator is Low Carbs. So that is what I will do. Of course, I will need help and lots of support. I'm not needy but really value friendship. I will be figuring everything out tonight and be on board tomorrow. So happy to be here.

Good morning kitchenYum. Glad you've chosen a healthy way. I have finally gotten my diabetes into a somewhat healthy state. Counting carbs is the only way to go. I was reading over my patient's portal this week and realized that I have lost about 40 lbs since last July. Not a great amount for a year, but this is the first time in my life that I have lost without starving myself. In the beginning I didn't start dieting. One day I realized that my rings wouldn't stay on my fingers, I kept walking out of my shoes, and my watch was really uncomfortable because it kept rubbing the palm of my hand. This is how I realized that I was losing weight. So I decided that all the years I had counted calories had not worked for me, but counting carbs does. I joined fs and keep my carb count to a reasonable level for me. Last July 306 lbs, this July 268. I don't feel deprived and am not thinking of quitting. Usually I give up by this time. My 1C is down to 7.8 from 11.8. I am going broke buying new clothes. I won't say this journey has been fun but it certainly has been rewarding. I hope that you have success with your carb counting. Please ask for help if you get confused or just need support. The people here are great. Also, if you are new to diabetes, bug your doctor if there is anything you need clarified. Best of luck. Kathryn

Well, I'll be! I had no idea I had comments. Thank you, everyone. Kathryn your story is inspiring. Thank you so much for sharing. I really appreciate everyone's comments. Happy Saturday! I have to go for a walk before it reaches the 90's here in Limon, Colorado. This heat is just unfriendly. Talk to you later and thanks again.

LCHF is defiantly the way to go, if you avoid ALL sweets. Best of luck on your journey. P.S., love your bicycle photo.

My doctor said, No root veggies either, they all have a lot of sugar. I loved carrots and beets but they both shot my sugar up. No potatoes, radishes, sweet potatoes etc... You can eat only onions.

I have a bit of a question, please. I have a Fitbit, is there any way to use it on FS? I looked in exercises hoping for a way to link it to my information but there seems to be no way. If the answer is no, I cannot sync it to my account, is there a way to add the steps then?
