I am really trying not to give up.... I know it's all in my head but I just want to give up. I feel like I am just constantly fighting against myself. Why don't I just automatically want to make the best most healthy choices?????? We are such amazingly complex miracles of existence and yet I always seem to crave ways to make myself unhealthy.....WHY......

Good thought there from Socrates. When I'm tempted by something , I ask myself, "Is this going to make me healthier?" The answer is usually pretty clear.

Maybe the 80-20 rule works for you? 80% of the time follow your health and allow small deviations occasionally. Some people cannot do black and white or the all ro nothing thinking - it becomes too overwhelming. Just ask yourself if you are doing the best you can do - not in guilt way, but in a motivation way, Good luck

I really understand your dilemma. So....I am trying to make sure I only buy what I can/should eat. That means I don't buy cheese - which I crave- or chips - another crave. However, I did buy Pace Picante sauce which is really low cal, no fat etc and saltine crackers. Now when I have that craving for "chips and dip" I can eat about 3-4 saltines and some picante sauce and that works! Really not the same but it cures that craving. Keep the faith! you CAN do this!

Great quote! Take one day at a time, don't give up, it's hard to get out of the easy way of eating. If you make an unhealthy choice pick yourself up and start over the next day.

I have finally figured out that if I remove sugar and flour from my diet, the craziness and cravings die down to almost none existent. I definitely am ADDICTED to both. May e something to research.

I have found at times that precisely because I am so focused on "not eating" certain items, I want them all the more. So I try to focus on the joy of eating the foods I love that are in my program and forget about the rest. It kind of speaks to your quote, but it's also about resistance. What you resist is attracted to you somehow - or maybe you to it?

It looks like you are doing well except for a recent bump. Don't give up, tighten up...

I agree with HCB. We are all differently wired, and should not expect the same responses from our bodies/psyches, etc. I. E. I just helped polish off a red velvet pound cake mix with choc, chips for the last 3 nites-- but its gone, I'm done with it. Fortunately managed to stay within my RDI. But even if I didn't, its okay - tomorrow's another day. I don't feel guilty, not beating myself, and allowed myself total enjoyment. I'm focusing on gradual and permanent change - took a lifetime to get to where I am, and I will be patient to get somewhere better. Gokona, its okay.

And yes, ravensfolly, You're right. I would not have believed that I could kick the cravings-- at least they don't rule my life any more. I started focusing on getting rid of those, a year ago, or so -- get the sugar and refined flour out of everyday eating. I allow treats for special occasions now, rather than as part of unconscious eating.
